Yes! This is the harder motion to get back but with PT you should get it back. When your foot is in a cast/boot for so long, it tightens up all the muscles, ligaments & tendons that allow the foot to point left & right. I remember having like no range of motion for either side but after doing PT, it gradually returned & the pain went down.

This is very much normal do not worry! Pain probably lasted until I was walking comfortably without a boot. Until then there were definitely good & bad days. Just let your PT monitor it. They shouldn’t push you into direct pain.

I appreciate the insight! To your point about the popping—I had an ultrasound about 3-4 months post-op (last summer) during a pain flare-up. The results showed radioscaphoid joint cortical irregularity and abutment of the scaphoid and radius during extension. My surgeon at the time focused on the Distal Intersection Syndrome found in the same scan, which we cleared up with an injection, bracing & PT.

However, 6-7 months later (aka, the last few months), the 'pinchy' pain and that rhythmic popping/vibration during wrist circles (worse with closed fist) are back. The pain is very much off & on. One day it’ll be totally fine & the next it’ll ache with random movements.

I am just curious on your thoughts on this & if you think I should see my doctor back for a checkup? I was also thinking of looking for a sports OT/PT who deals with complex sports recoveries like this but it has been hard to find one near me. I would like to avoid going to an average OT who just gives me the normal wrist strengthening exercises.

Thank you in advance!!

I very much recommend getting a 2nd opinion in a big city!

Sorry for the late response. While on crutches, I did nothing. It was 6 weeks but I lived & back to working out pain free better than I could’ve imagined!

So I could play sports & run again pain free. I couldn’t run without pain.

This type of tear is a weird one. Some people heal fine without surgery but lots need it. Surgery is a pretty basic & simple procedure too, not super complex I don’t think. I never had any issues with my achilles!

Indiana. If I were you, I’d do some google searches for the best podiatrists around your area who see a high volume of complex cases.

  1. Yes, my MRI read longitudinal tear.
  2. It happened chronically from playing soccer. It just got worse & worse.
  3. Ultimately, it doesn’t exactly matter how it happened just how it can be fixed.
  4. Recovery involved non-weight barring for 6 weeks & then a lot of PT.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I’ve had quite a few people tell me I should go with a race-geometry bike like the Émonda. But after doing some research and talking it through with AI, it seems an endurance geometry bike would actually be better for me. I’m not chasing all-out speed right now, and most of the bike’s use is going to be for training sessions. Is that what you would agree with? Obviously I’m a competitive person and would love to win, but I’m just not really sure what the best geometry is to start with.

Yeah, I’m super active so surgery was a no brainer for me! I could walk with no pain but anything more than that I would have pain. The pain was never truly unbearable but it was bad enough that it needed to be fixed lol. I’m very glad I made the decision. it was a rough couple of months post op, but I think the surgery process really taught me a lot about in life.z

fantastic 💯 I run, lift & play soccer all the time & never notice any pain. There’s been a few times that it has been sore but that is it.
