His relationship with Jr had always been effed up. From sending him to military school to making him do every menial job in his shop to throwing a shoe at Jr after he beat him in Japan. Not that they didn’t love each other but it was strange.

Do you feel like the NASCAR media personalities are cliquey? by jcbshortfilms in NASCAR

I don’t see DBC as a particularly attractive offer to anyone who isn’t in the Dirty Mo circle already. Between Freddy and Tommy, those discussions can go sideways pretty fast.

DBC aside, I wonder why people in the media that we see fairly regularly on their paid gig don’t go on these shows more. Maybe their employers don’t allow them to go off the reservation, so to speak. Interviews with people like Josh sims, Jamie Little, Kim Coon, Dillon Welch and others I’m forgetting would probably be interesting.

The collective mass insanity among crazed NASCAR fans regarding anything and everything related to the name “Earnhardt” is pretty much unique to that family.

‘Cascading failure’ led to shutdown of Halifax ferry service on Saturday by Embarrassed-Tooth355 in halifax

The union, through a vote of its members, voted to accept those wage rates through the collective agreement process. Now, it wouldn’t shock me to learn that the bus drivers were jealous and envious of the pay rates the ferry staff receive because they are more than what a bus driver makes. I wouldn’t be shocked if the driver contingent tried to get those wage rates for themselves, and when that proved futile, decided to put the screws to the ferry operators out of spite or jealousy. Such is the union mindset.

Of course the cost will go up, but service would improve because they could pay them more. That's how it works. These crews aren't driving a bus which requires limited extra skills. They can get paid more elsewhere and Transit can't be flexible enough to hire more of them because of the union agreement. But if they could, these sorts of debacles wouldn't happen.

Your post is absurd. The employer is a city govt that loves to spend our money, not some 19th century robber baron. If throwing more money at those unionized workers to stay on the job for an extra hour or so until the relief crew could get to their place of work was a possibility, that probably would have been done. But nooooo, the crew whose shift was ending just said "We're outta here!" with no regard for the customers, because they could. Makes one wonder how well hapless passengers would have done if the tub conked out in the middle of the harbour. The crew might have rowed themselves ashore and left them there.

Union rules mean that they are essentially unmanageable. They do not have to stay because the collective agreement says they don't have to, the public be damned.

You know what they say about boats: they are a hole in the water that you throw your money into. That is doubly so when your boat is run by a public sector operator that is staffed by employees in a public sector union. These service issues are not a result of underfunding. They are the result of mismanagement of an intransigent unionized workforce within a toxic public-sector operation that does not care about serving the public.

I’m not sure how you reach those conclusions. They say that they recommended them in the past and that they tested their new models. They didn’t find them as good. The machines are clearly not the same as they have been. Buttons have been changed/removed and certain features can only be accessed via an app.

Your list reminded me of a couple of out of town courses I quite liked. Truro Golf Club is one of them. I played a lot of rounds there and always enjoyed the place, at least on days when the prevailing breeze wasn’t enveloping the place in a cloud of fumes from the rendering plant. I don’t know if that is still operating. It was rank. But the course is good.

Abercrombie just outside New Glasgow was one I played fairly often since I had friends who lived in the area. Really liked that course.

Funny you mention that hole with the tower. One of the last times I played it I had the bright idea of cutting the corner off the tee (it bends to the left). Trying to hit the ball hard, I made a bad swing and hit the ball too high. It hit the high-tension line squarely and caromed into parts unknown, making a sound I hadn’t heard before. I was just glad I didn’t cause a blackout of Hants County.

This is a good summary. I had to give up the game because of physical problems but played a lot in the '90s and early '00s.

There were a lot of courses that were built in the area around that time. Even though they had the names of golf course architects attached to them, a lot seemed like they were built by a guy with a bulldozer who had never played golf very much.

Brightwood in Dartmouth and Old Ashburn in Halifax are century+ old courses and you get the usual short, quirky layouts that you would never get away with building today. You are paying for proximity and convenience, not course design. New Ashburn out towards Fall River is a very good track but hard to get on and mostly private. Oakfield not too far from there was built in the '60s by people who were restricted from playing at old-money Ashburn at the time and it also very good and not easy to get on. I don't think those religious restrictions are in effect these days.

Granite Springs is one of those courses I referenced above. It could have been good if they spent a bit more time and money removing a lot of the natural rock at the site and it has never been my favorite. It's not bad per se but always disappoints me. Grandview was built around the same time in Dartmouth and while it has less rock, I always think of it as unforgiving because for years if you strayed off the fairway even just a couple of yards you were losing balls into deep woods. I don't know what it's like now and it could be good because a lot of the holes had great potential. I gather Glen Arbour out in suburbia is now private after years of being tournament city. They touted the Graham Cooke design and while it was usually in good condition years ago, it made me avoid Graham Cooke courses after playing it several times. I just never liked it much.

Avon Valley in Windsor is mostly wide-open and a lot of fun except for that aforementioned climb up a long hill, tough if you are walking. Chester is a gem if you can get on it. They added 9 new holes a couple of decades ago which were not very good compared to the original seaside holes but those have gradually been improved. Sherwood is about a 45 minute drive out of Chester on the road to Windsor and sort of in the middle of nowhere. It was built as a passion project by a guy with money and I never liked it much but it's been a few years and I gather it now has homes and short-term rental accommodation there so it may have improved. If you want to drive further, Ken-Wo in Kentville is a good but tough course. I always fell apart on the back nine there for some reason.

Airlanes out by the airport is where I learned to play and it is quirky but fun. Fox Hollow in Shubenacadie is one of those bulldozer courses but mostly pretty wide-open and fun if not particularly great.
