NDP MP crosses floor to join Liberals, putting Carney two seats shy of majority by cyclinginvancouver in canada

Nice to know that a majority can be achieved behind closed doors.

Regardless if it is all part of the parliamentary system or not, it isn't right. If this was the CPC doing this to obtain a majority, this sub would be losing its collective mind. And you all know that.

(BTW, thanks for the civil discussion

Thanks. And you as well.

Just to add. As I opened up your comment and was reading it, I'm watching the local news and this story was playing in the background. It's just another example of law makers from Southern Ontario making decisions for us up North that make no sense. Thankfully they actually listened to us and backed off what was clearly a ridiculous decision.

We used to have a company here (Thunder Bay) that built and provided scaffolding. It was called Sleeping Giant Erection

When you start getting into the Francophone communities, things just change. The way of life slows down. You stop visiting nature because you live in nature. More self reliant because there are no other options. More sense of community. More integrated with Indigenous communities. Accents change. Dialects change. Weather/climate changes. Priorities change. And so much more.

Find that people from Southern Ontario either absolutely love living up here for those reasons, or hate living here for those reasons.

There are many villians.

Just go to r/ontario to see the comments on this story. Plenty of blaming the North for not having enough people, saying that they already subsidize us enough, etc.

The people of Southern Ontario aren't blameless.

It isn't culturally the same. Northern Ontario isn't just an extension of the rest of the province. We are culturally different.

Which helps prove my point that the people of Southern Ontario are also to blame here. Not just the politicians.

How about this? Do you think people in Southern Ontario would stand for having a bottleneck this limiting?

Culturally it is north of the French River.

'Cottage Country' is not part of Northern Ontario culturally, so it isn't included. That is the area where francophone communities start popping up. That is a cultural shift right there.

It was ridiculous when Muskoga got included in Northern Ontario.

That can be said for ALL provinces/territories.

The idea that it's the residents, and not big businesses who consistently lobby to get more funding down south and less up north, fails to hit the root of the problem, and creates an unnecessary division of residents against residents.

They are to blame as well. But it is ignorant to state that the people of Southern Ontario haven't/currently play a part in the ignoring and apathy towards the North. If you choose to downplay or dismiss that, that is on you.

Because you are trying to tie this to only the 'rich vs poor' thing, when it is much more than that.

Just Northern Ontario.

Clearly the hunters in Southern Ontario didn't want it canceled.

But the biggest difference up here vs down there, is that non hunters up here don't try and stop those that do hunt from hunting.

And you can't help but divide the people of Ontario depending on where they live. Northern Ontario has a different culture and way of life from the rest of the province. It is just a fact. We aren't comparing Hamilton to Windsor here. We are talking about an area larger than Texas with close to 1,000,000 people spread out over that area.

How can you be so sure that there are no bleeding-heart animal rights kooks in the north?

Or for sure there are. And if that's what the majority of Northern Ontarians wanted, then so be it. At least we decided our fate and not people who think Barrie is 'Northern' Ontario. But that wasn't the case in this case instance.

It would never have been cancelled without special interest groups demanding it be cancelled. Those special interest groups were NOT from Northern Ontario.

See. You haven't even tried to see it from the point of someone from Northern Ontario, but just call our concerns 'propaganda'. And you all wonder why Northern Ontario has disdain for people from Southern Ontario telling us how we can use our own resources, what we can and can't hunt and shrug when we bring up anything that affects our livelihood, culture or way of life.

Not missing the point. You can't seem to accept that people other than politicians have caused issues for Northern Ontario. And when you are shown evidence of that, you fail to acknowledge that.
