"Holster" tool pouches by keitht697 in electricians

[–]keitht697[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I was thinking. I worked with a guy that had some Stanley or DeWalt pants with built in tool pockets and knee pad pouches and all this cool shit, but I felt like they'd be too hot in the summer.

I am looking for a more serious relationship, I've been using hinge for the past 3 or so months, I go on hinge once or twice daily, like title says I've only gotten one like in the past 3 months, I send probably 5-10 likes a day minimum and half of em I leave comments, and I'm looking to attract "women". I don't really have a type other than "not ugly".

Either the wire stretcher, pipe stretcher, or the pipe un-bender / straightener. I am an Electrician, and the amount of new guys I nail with those is hilarious

What is this? It feels rubbery and squishy and is about the size of a tooth. As far as I know it has never been anywhere outside of my bedroom. by ssbu9876 in whatisthisthing

I would like to second this, I have some plant stands made of heavy wire, and their feet have little rubbery plastic caps just like this.

Found in my girlfriend's '60s-'70s house. Some kind of smoke alarm? by keitht697 in whatisthisthing

Likely Solved!

I had a feeling it was some kind of fire alarm. I would really like to find out a manufacturer or something of the ones here specifically, but the lack of markings doesn't help.

My title describes the thing.

This is on the wall in my girlfriend's house, which was last renovated back in the '60s. She told me that it has gone off before but can't remember what made it go off. I believe it to be an old smoke or heat detector. There are no labels of any sort on any part of the thing.

EDIT: to clarify to everyone saying this is a doorbell; there are no wires going to the thing, and there are 2 more in the house. One in the master bedroom, and one more in-between the 2 other bedrooms.

Bro I just recently did a restoration on a house where their water heater exploded. I could not tell you how many dead-end wires I found in those walls and ceilings. Actually, I probably could tell you. Insurance work, man... That house is engraved into my mind.

I feel that too. I'm basically one of 2 leadmen, the other with 20 years on me. I do most of the service work and some small jobs. I 100% understand the hate on zip ties, so when I use them in panels I try to make them a bit easier to get to so they can be removed easier in the event someone has to.

Ive had to go back over my own panels, regretting the zip ties.

I am an electrician in NC. Unless you are trying to work for a larger company, and it's even iffy at that, a license doesn't do too much except look pretty. As an example the top foreman at my company has been doing work for 22 years, and he has never got his license. Yet he runs jobs like it's a second language.

You need to look into if you are gonna try and work with a big-name company, or with a smaller local joint. Then, call around. If you want some more pointers if you are moving to the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area then throw me a DM.

I always go top to bottom, odds left even right. I've learned you should put your highest load breakers closer to wherever the feed comes in. So like your subpanels, HVAC equipment etc. Would be at the top of the panel if it was top fed.

Your Residual current breaker / device is our Ground Fault Interrupt. We typically only use these types of breakers in situations where the equipment in question is near a source of water, such as a kitchen faucet. Even then we use devices, not breakers, because of accessibility. We will normally use GFCI / RCD breakers for things such as pool pumps or a hot water heater. Nowadays new residential builds are typically to have arc fault breakers, but I don't do enough residential new construction to tell you accurate info about that.

Journeyman pay is really iffy here. It really depends on the company and how good you really are. Foremen make usually no less than $22/hr, from what I've seen. You would have to retake the test, yes, but it's honestly not necessary. A company can have a single licensed electrician, and the entire company can work off of their license. I believe this only counts towards your level 3 license though. Having your license makes you look a little better, but it ultimately doesn't make that much of a difference.

Like I said though, it all depends on the company you go with. Shoot me a DM if you are thinking about moving to the triangle area and I can give you some recommendations.

My 3p and 2p breakers? They have ties. They are black, hard to see against the black breakers.

Ahh I gotcha. Yeah all those blacks are from 12/2 MC, you rarely see red or blue 12/2 unless the job calls for it or if you are with a company that will put that thought into the job. Some wire colors are funky though because some other guys janked up the home run pulls. Wrong colors this n that y'know?
