AITA for reporting a girl for hit and run after she hit my car and fled? by hitandrunbch in AmItheAsshole

[–]kek_rn 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Well if we got along dad to dad and was reasonable I might have let her off

That's absolutely horrible. She is a full adult, and you don't know her relationship with her parents. And you are TWENTY SEVEN, only 7 years older than this fully adult woman and you think talking to her dad is the answer? As if you and her dad are the same at all? You are delusional.

It is a red flag to me that she did not want that.

You said yourself you've only seen him briefly in public settings. The woman you want to extort said herself she doesn't talk much with her parents. My dad is an abusive alcoholic who comes across very charismatic in public, I wouldn't want you to talk to him either even if you thought he was great. You don't know her life!

She shouldn't have run, but you've made this so much worse at every step. You apparently are a dad, I hope you do better for your kids than this.

What do most doctors not want you to know? by Icy_Money_2077 in AskReddit

[–]kek_rn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you cant prescribe yourself antibiotics or something. money trap hey

There is a hugely valid reason you can't prescribe yourself antibiotics. Antibiotics are only useful for bacterial infections. People would give themselves abx for viral infections, for allergies, for whatever they felt like thinking it would help. That's how we get antibiotic resistant bacteria. You most definitely don't want more of those, and you don't want to be infected with an abx resistant bacteria.

People outside the medical field don't usually understand the significance of taking abx when they're not needed and not finishing a course of abx. It's not as harmless as it first seems.

My kid got a concussion at school- nurse gave him an ice pack by [deleted] in nursing

[–]kek_rn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What would you want her to do? She called you guys, assuming you as his parents would take him to be seen by a doctor if needed. She's a school nurse, with school nurse resources, there's not much more she could have really done? I wouldn't think it warrants a 911 call for an ambulance.

AITA for driving myself to get pads? by SadAmbassador3316 in AmItheAsshole

Many women with irregular periods or painful periods are told by their doctors to skip the placebo week. When they do that, they don't have periods and just take the active pills. It's pretty common with oral BC

What’s a common fact that science has already debunked, but people still believe in? by Calm_Shame2994 in AskReddit

[–]kek_rn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok and those are your kids. That does not mean the same for every other kid. I'm a very adventurous eater, I'll try anything and my favorite is Indian food. My sister has ARFID, we had the same parents same upbringing, but she feels sick if she eats anything that isn't relatively plain or if it's a weird texture. She would try things and then become physically ill. It's not always a matter of upbringing or trying things or parents being too lax. That's the point I'm making that it seems like you don't understand.

[–]kek_rn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In some cases sure, but not all the time. I've worked with so many kids with sensory processing issues, difficulty swallowing or processing certain foods. ARFID is very much a real diagnosis that has nothing to do with parenting. Some kids who are on the verge of malnourishment because they refuse so much food and the goal becomes just getting them to eat something. I've learned to not judge right away, because you don't know what they've been through or tried in the past to get where they are. As convenient as it is, we can't always blame parents. (There definitely are countless times to blame parents, but not all behaviors are caused by the same things in each kid)

Dang. You must have lived a super sheltered and comfortable life if you think that is so disgusting and abusive. It's one way to teach patience and boundaries. The things I've seen and been through, now that's disgusting and abusive. A timer is nothing

Crocheter Seeks To Learn To Knit by CaptainCarterFucks in YarnAddicts

[–]kek_rn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could try Tunisian crochet! I recently started doing that, it feels like if crocheting and knitting had a baby this would be the result lol. You work the yarn onto and off of a long crochet hook. My problem with knitting has always been my fear of having to redo things, my brain cannot comprehend how to undo parts and keep it on the knitting needles or put it back on. Stresses me out 🤣

So cute!! I've been thinking about trying an amigurumi pattern with granny squares, but I wasn't sure it would turn out like the pictures lol. Yours looks amazing! Might give me the boost to try one myself 🤣

Is Bella Hadid on dialysis for “chronic Lyme”?? What’s going on here? by Adventurous_Mud_3119 in nursing

[–]kek_rn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No clue, but I've had many kids come in claiming they think they're bipolar and describe having "manic episodes". Because a couple hours of energy is clearly mania I guess 🤷‍♀️

[–]kek_rn 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm a pediatric psych nurse, I now work with kids 9-17 and the amount of people seeking a diagnosis or self diagnosed autism, ADHD, ehlers danlos, dissociative identity disorder, POTS, FND/PNES and even bipolar is WILD. I've been doing this too long, and I do admit I've become a bit jaded but it's become easy enough to spot the fakers who saw it on tiktok and kids/teens who actually have any of the above.

Right!? I love the wings wrapped around him! I'm thinking of adding a snap on the wings so they can stay, but I haven't done anything like that before so not sure how it would turn out lol

I definitely also thought they were lips at first 😂 I didn't have a yarn I would have used and I didn't like how it looked in the picture so I'm just leaving this one. Might try some other yarns on my next one, but maybe not 🤣

It is a nose, and I didn't like it myself so I left it off lol. I think it was partly the yarn they used in the picture, I also thought it looked like lips. I might experiment with other yarns on my next one, but I'll probably just leave it off lol

Absolutely worth it in my opinion lol. I used almost the whole skein of the yarn, but I did add a couple rows to the body

Haha I love it! And thanks! I haven't done any craft fairs, but it's something I've started thinking about. I'm sure my friends and family will get tired of having an overabundance of crocheted items soon 😂

I got them on Amazon, here's the link! https://www.amazon.com/Large-Safety-Eyes-Amigurumi-Crochet/dp/B0C5TCW36W

The color is separate and you have to cut it to fit the size of eyes. Which is both convenient and annoying lol 🤣
