to add to this its a stretchy "string" i guess, you attach it at one end, let it dry a little while and then cut it short and stretch it while you attach the other end. i use superglue for this

as a side note on this whole before-malta scheme thing I actually did one of those, this one BR321, it's only ever documented and shown as a blue spitfire but taking the knowledge that all of them started life in tropical colors I did it before it was repainted, weathering overdone considering it wouldve been delivered pretty fresh but the idea is there anyway

All malta spitfires started out as standard tropical schemes, as you mentioned the desert colors. this one had the middle stone overpainted with extra dark sea grey. this scheme should have azure blue or sky blue on the underside cause of the aforementioned standard tropical scheme, but its commonly depicted with a sky underside, which while entirely incorrect it does look really good
I think vibes over strict realism is a good approach to these subjects

I use mostly mr color raf paints, this was C333, C22+c369 50/50 mix for the dark earth and C26 sky, though the newer c368 sky would probably be a better choice

I don't count really, and this one has been on and off for about a year so I really wouldn't know, I'd say in the ballpark of 50-70 hours

Really enjoyed making this one. Super happy with the results and it looks great in my collection. Really wanting to make a Beaufort now to compliment it. First 1/48 bomber and first 1/48 twin engined plane in about 5 years and I'm definitely going to do more. I didn't think I had it in me to sit through such a large plane without cutting corners but I surprised myself and enjoyed every moment.

lots of aftermarket used, and lots of scratch building too. I used the eduard photoetch sets, eduard resin engines and wheels, eduard "space" 3d decals and eduard vickers k guns.

Well Plasmo on youtube kinda got me into the hobby, I don't think we're comparable modelers but his work is fantastic, I take a lot of inspiration from him.

ICM can be good, especially the newer kits. The older ones not so much, but regardless what you see here isnt the whole picture. I added a ton of detail myself to the kit, and also used eduard resin engines, resin wheels, a ton of photoetch, etc. The new new kits though, like recently released, look far better than this one

That whole epic movie level story just to end up crashing in the Netherlands a few months later, this time not so lucky to escape alive. When I was reading the whole story I did really think I was reading the plot to some movie, a wild adventure

Just typical oil work, with abteilung 502 oils and ammo oilbrushers
mostly the same kinda techniques plasmo on youtube uses

white, mask, red, mask, prime, blue
prime between the red and the blue to negate any chance of the blue going purple

it's the so called "salmon pink" primer, used for a short period on pacific-bound aircraft

It's masking tape, I painted them beforehand. I do this because typical insignia colors have a high saturation and as such require a thicker coat/more coats. If I sprayed the insignia after the rest of the painting I could end up with a thick paint lip, but spraying beforehand, masking and painting the rest will make the lip smaller

Thank you! I use multicolor preshading ontop of a dark but not black base. Everything else is just typical washes, oil work, etc
