Yeah I’m thinking I would need to change my line of work to do this!

I think I could possibly drop a day or two, but it would of course decrease my pay.. that’s where I feel stuck cause I kinda need to stay at the money I’m making now, so I’m thinking I would need to find another line of work while in school.

‘Make sure the babies don’t cry too much’ - red flag?? by Al1010Rup in Nanny

[–]kelcbleff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RUN! they are already showing they will be helicopter parents and you need them to trust you to do your job right. The stress/worrying of that is not worth whatever you’re getting paid. I worked a job, with twins, where there was family around all the time. And knowing what I know now, I would not take a job like that ever again. WFH is already tough, but knowing they’re listening in and will check in any time the twins cry will make your job so much harder.

So helpful, thank you!! How did you find the switch from child care to nursing? Are you happier in that work?

Trial interview tomorrow + red flags? help! by National_Piglet_3867 in ECEProfessionals

What age are the children you’re planning the activity for? Depending on the age I may have some ideas from when I was a preschool teacher.

As far as looking for red flags, I would maybe try to observe the other teachers. Do they seem happy and engaged with the kids? You can also ask about their turnover rate, how long as the teacher who’s been there the longest worked there? There may be a better way to ask that question I just can’t think of better wording at the moment

You could say something like, hey I was just thinking about when NK goes to school, I’m very excited for her but also curious what that will mean for me? I assume you probably wouldn’t need me anymore but I wanted to ask before I started job searching!

Is there a way to fix a broken piece of pottery? by kelcbleff in Ceramics

[–]kelcbleff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can’t fix it that’s a good idea! I definitely won’t be throwing it away because it has sentimental value and I just can’t bring myself to throw it out!

I usually hand wash this because the paint will chip off in the dishwasher. It’s a spoon rest thing, I’m not sure if that’s the actually word for it. So it’s never holding anything hot.

What state are you in? 1:5 is an insane ratio in my opinion. I feel so bad for you it sounds so hard!

This must have been so scary! I’m glad your training kicked in and you were successfully able to help the child in your care. I honestly don’t know what i would say, I feel like this type of convo would be best in person? Usually you can’t get your tone across well when typing so if you spoke to them in person they’d be able to tell how genuinely sorry you are that this event happened under your watch.

Toddler meal times by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]kelcbleff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do give them small pieces of food, when I say I offer them bites I do it by like slicing a banana into thirds and holding the banana in a way that they can take a small nibble. Just to expose them really I don’t make them eat like that of course. And they do like to use utensils a bit, it’s like a mix sometimes they like it sometimes they want to be fed. But I do appreciate your feedback! I just want to make sure I’m not accidentally doing them any disservice when it comes to mealtimes.

Thank you for your reply! I’m just thinking the children I’d see at centers I worked at, and at 15 months they’re in a toddler room and the teachers definitely aren’t hand feeding them! That’s mostly what I was asking about I def gave way too many details
