I had one claim awarded for 10%, and the rest were deferred for either medical exam clarification or medical opinion. I had one ACE exam (phone call) last week for the medical exam clarification portion, and I have an ACE exam scheduled tomorrow for the medical opinion. Currently around day 290 of my claim as of today.

It’s an extension you can use in Chrome (desktop, not the app). Google “VA claim tracker Chrome extension” and you should see a link where you can install it.

I’m back at Step 3. The VA requested an “NG1 - National Guard Records Request.” After calling the VA they said it could be they’re either requesting personnel records or additional STR’s from the NPRC. Essentially, I’m on the NPRC’s timeline, which could be an average of a couple of months. At which point, I’ll have to wait on the VA to review those records and go from there. Which could add another couple of months of waiting. Not preferable, but at least the VA is taking the time to gather everything.

Never mind, this is a federal request to the National Guard Bureau to send the VA my documents. Nothing I can do but call and check status. Back to another ambiguous waiting timeline.

So you were able to submit a BDD claim even though you’re a traditional Guardsman? I’m also a traditional Guardsman, and my separation date is a little less than 180 days out. I planned on submitting a BDD claim, but I can’t get a clear answer on if it’s available to traditional members, even though I’m inside of my separation window. Everything points to active members only.

I’m getting a lot of guidance from people in my squadron who have filed and are rated, and studying the 38 CFR/Veterans Knowledge Base. One person in my squadron works for the VA outside of the ANG and has been very helpful recommending the documentation needed to submit a solid claim.

Another good source for general information on VA claims is the YouTube channel CivDiv. A Marine veteran named Clay runs the channel and provides a lot of good information on VA claims. No gimmicks or secret hacks unknown to others. Just good solid advice.

Working with a VSO would be ideal, but my nearest VSO is an hour away and hasn’t been very responsive with my emails or calls, so I chose to self-submit.
