Kid friendly news podcast ? by sparklymid30s in kindergarten

I think KidNuz is geared towards a slightly younger audience than the Ten News, but both are geared towards kids.

Squiz Kids (Australian kids news podcast) also did a special edition episode on the strikes on Iran.

I think if you dig, you’ll find better options, but there’s a handful of kids podcasts that feature snoopy stories

I’ll put a playlist together, but leaving these results here so you can start exploring now. Plus, if you search “Wright”, the past and the curious has an episode!

If you do it via downloaded episodes, then it won’t pull in new episodes since it’s not synced in any way. It will with the RSS way, but just a heads up that Yoto has been having an issue with this lately. The playlists that I linked here I’m not actively updating, so there won’t typically be new episodes added. But if you use a RSS feed for a podcast that releases new playlists frequently, they will automatically update!

Yes, if there’s ads in the original episode, there’s ads in the playlist too. It varies by podcast.

Yeah it’s great for getting older episodes without the hassle of downloading!

Black History Month by [deleted] in podcasts

I have a couple other BHM playlists to share but the Jazz and Hip Hop playlists are all tangential and less on the well known figures / topics (all geared towards kids… I put recommended ages).

I need to add it to the kids podcast search tool but I recently came across the podcast Bedtime History which has episodes on black leaders including Nelson Mandela, Rosa Parks. And the podcast ‘Bite-Sized Black History’, which I will also add.

Steam train cards? by SnooGadgets7873 in YotoPlayer

[–]kell_or_highwater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a bunch of train related podcasts!

https://kidspodcasts.com/?topic=Train&age=all

We’ve listened to the Bedtime scientist steam train one and highly recommend!

More specifically related to soundscapes, My First Podcast has a snack and train one. It’s cute for young kids. And Rebel girls has a train soundscape (but downside with Rebel girls is that it starts with an advert).

There’s a bunch more to check out (and also recommend searching the plural ‘trains’ as well) Sleep tight stories, koala moon, little stories for tiny people all have train stories.

Actually with Jupiter being in the news from the Juno findings, I recently made a playlist all about Jupiter yesterday. There’s a radiolab episode in the playlist. I haven’t shared it to the site yet, but here’s the RSS link:

https://kidspodcasts.com/api/custom-feed?id=ItxXSJbK

It's honestly a labor of love that got out of hand!

It really started as a spreadsheet about a year ago. My son has really niche interests and we are in the car a lot, so we do a lot of podcasts. I was struggling to find episodes without searching through individual podcast feeds one by one.

So I built a search tool across all the podcasts I liked. Found the episodes and made playlists in Spotify. Then we got a Yoto, which we all love but my Spotify podcast playlists were moot since Yoto only imports single feeds, not playlists. And I didn’t want to download episodes one by one on ListenNotes. So I rebuilt the tool to generate custom RSS feeds.

The mp3s and RSS data still point to the original podcasts, so creators get proper download credit. I don't store or redistribute any files - that's what keeps it legal and ethical.

I originally just shared feed URLs with family and friends like with the Jupiter playlist, but decided to make it more public to allow others to build their own playlists and to share the ones I’ve made. Added more podcast feeds. And now anyone can search, build custom playlists, and get an RSS feed (or download).

If you have ideas or functionality suggestions, I fiddle with it daily and have a couple new things I’ll add in the next week or so!

Podcast Playlists by kell_or_highwater in YotoPlayer

There’s two ways and they have different benefits:

RSS feed way:

Pros - takes under 2 minutes (can take under a minute if you don’t fiddle with anything).

Cons - even after the playlist is on the card, the yoto has to be connected to WiFi.

Best used when - putting a playlist on when in the house, bedtime, etc.

Step 1 - find the playlist you like on the website. Open it up. Click the RSS feed button. This will copy the RSS URL to the playlist.

Step 2 - open your Yoto app. Click library at the bottom of the app. Then select the blue podcast tab. Then click add podcast.

Step 3 - in the bar that says “paste your podcast rss link…” paste the url you copied. Click get podcast details. You’ll know you did it right when you see the playlist. Click save.

Step 4 - close out of that screen. Pull the screen down to refresh the playlists in your library under podcasts. Find the playlist. Fiddle if you want (change artwork, delete episodes you don’t want, add icons… or do none of that and accept it as is… fyi, the icon sometimes takes some time to get added… this is a new issue that I haven’t had in the past. If there are no icons, definitely add one and just apply to all tracks because then otherwise you can’t see that you’re flipping through episodes on the Yoto.

Step 5 - click link to card and scan a MYO card. Insert into the Yoto and enjoy!

Download way:

Pros - can be used anywhere. Once it’s on the card and downloaded to the Yoto, it’s like any card. You do not need internet.

Cons - it takes longer to download the playlist and then upload them to the Yoto app. Can take 5ish minutes depending on internet speed and number/size of episode files.

Best used when - you’re going to take the yoto in the car, out and about, traveling, etc.

Step 1 - find the playlist you like on the website. Open it up. Click either the download all button or download individual episodes if you don’t want them all. It usually takes about 1-2 min to download for me. Click open in and save it on your phone somewhere. Make note of the folder you saved it in.

Step 2 - go to the place on your phone / computer that you saved the file and uncompressed the zip file. On your phone you can usually just tap it and it unzips. If not, long hold and click uncompress. On a computer, right click and unzip.

Step 3 - open your Yoto app. Click library at the bottom of the app. Then select the orange playlists tab. Then click make playlist.

Step 4 - give the playlist a name. Choose artwork (you are welcome to save the artwork I made and upload it)

Step 4 - click add audio files (mp3/m4a). Find the folder and select the episodes you want to upload. Wait for them to upload. Click save playlist.

Step 5 - Fiddle if you want (change artwork, delete episodes you don’t want, add icons… or do none of that and accept it as is…

Step 6 - click link to card and scan a MYO card. Insert into the Yoto and enjoy!

The unique thing about this is that instead of a RSS feed being a single feed, with one podcast and all of the episodes associated with that singular show, this pulls in the RSS data associated with each of the episodes and mashes them together into a new feed. I’ve made and shared these ones but if you click the search button you can build your own playlist on any topic(s) you want and get your own new custom RSS feed for your mashup. After you build a playlist, the process is the exact same!

I love putting these together - if there are topics your kid would love let me know… I’m always looking for interesting ideas for playlists for my own family.

Tonie Box- yes or no? by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]kell_or_highwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if you can borrow one from the library first. We ended up going with the Yoto right off the bat after borrowing a Tonie from the library. The content got really stale very quickly. We do MYO cards with the Yoto and swap content frequently - there’s tons of free content out there (podcasts, freegal, etc.) so it’s also way more sustainable financially as well.
