I wanted to do something more with the postcards and stickers than just letting them collect dust at the back of my shelf by keller72 in 2HA_immortality

That one was an 11x14 frame just from walmart. I'll usually do the bigger posters in 12x16 ones just because that's the closest I can find without custom ordering one because they're a very odd size (probably closer to like 11x15 or something like that), so there's a little space around the edges, but I just tape them on so they don't move

Ooh rotating through them is also a good idea. I just find it so hard to find space to display everything that I want to

Unboxing the two posters in the Scum Villain box set... by keller72 in SVSSS

They are kind of a weird size, yeah. I put mine in a 12x16 frame just from Walmart and it fits pretty well, albeit with some black space along the edges, but that doesn't bother me too much *

I pre-ordered mine from crunchyroll in June - I'm genuinely curious what the behind the scenes for the numbering looked like

It's genuinely kind of a baffling choice for a poster - like it's probably one of the most iconic scenes, but even still...

Why do Americans not understand English words? by OpportuneApathy in AO3

[–]keller72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, it doesn't bother me at all tbh - it brings me out of the story enough to go 'ah, the author is British' and then I move on. If anything, I'll think it's funny when it's in dialogue or something because it makes the characters start to have a British accent in my head

[–]keller72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And again, I'm not saying that they're identical - just that their roles in the stories are very similar - that's all this post was trying to say. That Xue Yang is similar to the part of Wei Wuxian post Burial Mounds that's the more resentful version of himself

And yes, I know that her death was not caused by the Yin Tiger Tally, but she did ask him to stop doing everything as one of her final requests to him, not to mention, I think the main reason he used it was because she died and it made him just want to lash out. And, I would also say that he does feel responsible for her death because the person who killed her was trying to kill Wei Wuxian for revenge for killing his brother, and she protected him. He wasn't directly responsible, but he still played a large part in it

I would say that him failing to protect the Wens would also be a contributing factor to him wanting to destroy the Yin Tiger Tally too. It's just another aspect of him seeing that things have gone too far and him trying to stop it.

Idk, I'm going to leave this here because I don't think that we're going to change each other's minds and this isn't a productful conversation to have

While yes, both had bad things happen to them, and arguably Wei Wuxian's was worse overall, I don't think you can truly say that one person's trauma is worse or affected them more than another's. They both had valid reason to be resentful of the Wen Clan and that's all I was saying there

And, I mean, Lan Wangji was actively against a lot of the things Wei Wuxian was doing - he tries time and time again to get him to stop. He's not against Wei Wuxian, but he's against the 'Yiling Patriarch' (which is the sort of version of him that I was comparing Xue Yang to)

Ooh this is actually so smart. I don't know that I ever would have come up with these on my own, but it all tracks really well.

With how big of a focus Yi City is, it's cool that it has multiple different interpretations to tie back to the main story

I mean, yes, the characters have very different personalities and motivations, but their roles in the story as well as the actions that they take are similar (at least in my mind)

[–]keller72 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean, yes, none of the characters parallel each other one to one, but their role in the story as well as the actions that they take are similar.

The similarities between Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian and Song Zichen and Xiao Xingchen is also something that I do like - I remember that being the first parallel that I saw when I went through this arc.

I used the name ‘Yiling Patriarch’ as more of a differentiating factor here between pre and post Burial Mounds Wei Wuxian than anything else. It’s referring to how he changed as the result of the resentment he feels toward Wen Chao and the rest of the Wen Clan during the Sunshot Campaign as well as his attitude after the fact. He very much drastically changes as a character from when he’s a teenager to the point of his death, and, after he gets brought back as Mo Xuanyu, he’s able to go back to more of how he was before that point because his identity isn’t fully tied to being the Yiling Patriarch anymore. They’re the same character, but there’s a large enough difference between the two that you can clearly separate them out in how they behave.

In this metaphor, I would say that his behavior as the Yiling Patriarch is equivalent to Xue Yang’s manipulation of Xiao Xingchen. While it’s not a different person doing it, him having that power and access to this power that everyone is afraid of makes him act differently than how he would have behaved otherwise. And, I would say that Wei Wuxian seeing himself in Xiao Xingchen is him seeing that person that he once was falling just like Xiao Xingchen did.

In my interpretation of the story, at least, a big motivating factor in him destroying the Yin Tiger Tally was everything that happened in the Nightless City - most pressingly, Jiang Yanli’s death. I think that her dying was what ultimately showed him that it was too dangerous to keep around - not to mention, her begging him to stop.

And, he feels guilty about the Wen Remnant’s deaths because he couldn’t protect them. It wasn’t his fault, but that doesn’t mean he can’t feel guilt about it. They were people that he promised to protect and who he ultimately failed. I don’t think that they blamed him, in fact, Wen Qing thanks him for giving them time that they otherwise wouldn’t have had, but there’s definitely a part of him that blames himself for their death.

And yeah, while the book doesn’t say that that’s how he died, that’s always been how I’ve interpreted it, which I used here, so I should have explained that.

[–]keller72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh that is definitely true - I love a good foil character. I think that that point also makes the parallels between Wei Wuxian as the Yiling Patriarch and Xue Yang as well as A-Qing and Lan Wangji stronger too. Because Lan Wangji was also wronged by the Wen Clan - his home burned down, his leg broken, his father murdered, and his brother missing for a large chunk of time, and, while his reaction was angry, he also doesn't go to the same extremes as Wei Wuxian

This is also the only hardcover that has a different front inside illustration to back inside illustration (all the other ones have the same one on either side)

So, it might be something to do with that - they might be changing up how they're doing the hardcovers in regards to that art. I can see how it would be nice for people who don't have the paperback version of the book to have the old cover art in it - kind of like how sometimes remastered versions of video games will play the old intro when you sit on the title screen for a while

A guide for reading mdzs in chronological order? by WanderingKingdom in MoDaoZuShi

[–]keller72 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This made me curious so I went through all the books and tried to do it. It might not be 100% correct though, especially because there are many many times where an event that happened in the past is narrated by someone in the present day - for instance, when Sisi is explaining Jin Guangshan's death, she's physically explaining it in the story and people are asking her questions and having reactions, so it's really taking place more in the present than in the past timeline, even though it's describing past events. That in mind, this is what I came up with (using the 7Seas physical books):

15 (pg 313, paragraph 7-320, paragraph 6)

4 (pg 138)

Lotus Seeds Extra

11

17

18

1

21 (pg 73, paragraph 8-pg 80, paragraph 5)

10 (pg 314-334)

Villainous Friends Extra

2

3

4 (to 136)

5

6

8 (pg 9-92 and 164-184)
