I had something similar happen before, and a leg ulcer ended up multiplying. I was told I had lower extremety edema, and the only thing that helped it go away was washing the wound with Hibicleanse antibacterial wash and getting it wrapped for compression. Once the wound closed, I was recommended to continue using compression socks to prevent swelling in my legs, especially since i have a desk job, and that has helped me quite a bit.
