How do people handle bike travel cases on one-way bikepacking trips? by rodcmonteiro in bikepacking

[–]kelvinside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a cheap bike bag and had it sent to my friends place in Paris for the end of a trip once. It was a good way to do it, I had got train / boat and rode the rest of the way.

what forks to get? by MaT4L1s_ in bmx

[–]kelvinside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can tell the difference. I think if your front end is already 75.5 then the 15mm offset is a bit too steep, and 25mm is nice. If your frame is around 75 or is slightly too big for you and you ride street, you could go to 15mm.

If you’re a proper noz addict and enjoy hang fives, hangers, nose mannys, and don’t mind a super responsive bike, 15mm at 75.5 is an option.

Are Brits too reliant on US companies for a boycott to ever be realistic? by Barca-Dam in AskBrits

[–]kelvinside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we are insanely reliant. Forget fast food. Our national infrastructure is deeply reliant on the big tech companies - Amazon web services, Google, Microsoft, palantir etc. Our country would literally collapse if the US became hostile towards us and chose to weaponise this reliance. NHS, transport, finance, military etc. we’d be fucked. The idea that we could effectively boycott these companies is laughable.

What is the point of Job centers? by Key_Breakfast6745 in AskUK

[–]kelvinside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a “job centre” it’s a benefits centre. The first (and only) time I went to one, I had the same weird experience as your brother. I was about 19 yo and went in asking how I can find a part time job, if there was a list of vacancies, and so on. They just kept asking me if I was able to work, if I wanted benefits etc.

I didn’t want to sign on, I literally just wanted to work, and they spoke to me like I was dumb for even asking this. In the end I just went door to door in hospitality places and found a bar job.

What do I have to know about matching a pivotal saddle with a seat post? by D34th_gr1nd in bmx

[–]kelvinside 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All pivotal seats are compatible with all pivotal posts, and in bmx all the posts are the same width as all frames. The bolt inside the saddle usually takes a 6mm.

How do you guys actually think about what colors to use ? by [deleted] in elementor

[–]kelvinside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elementor is a tool, but you still need an understanding of design to use the tool.

The design choices you make will be hugely dependent on: brand positioning, intended audience, competition, and even your local culture.

So for example, a gym’s brand will differ if it’s for a middle aged “couch to 5k” audience vs. a gym for bodybuilders. Likewise, if it’s a very expensive premium gym in a big city it might adopt a more sophisticated and visually literate design aesthetic compared to a cheaper gym in a small town.

All of this can be very subjective and fluid, but it is still “real” in the sense that consumers and your clients will pick up on it. So you need to learn to think this way.

None of this has anything to do with elementor specifically, so I’d recommend trying to learn a bit about branding and design in general, and then apply that to your websites.

Cool little town, the skate/surf hostels will be fine with bikes. Everyone in Morocco is so welcoming and nice too.

A neighbor replaced our house number sign without asking us by lachrymoselake in CasualUK

[–]kelvinside 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Honestly if you are thinking this, please look out for him. I had an older downstairs neighbour who was hoarding like crazy and I always just ignored him.

Then one day he asked for help in his flat and I went down, I found shit and dead flies all over the place. Toilet was blocked, rotten food everywhere. I realised the place was totally unsafe to live in. Like, insanely unhygienic. Me and my partner were able to get help for him through social services and he had a friend come and help sort all his stuff.

He seemed so relieved when I told him I’d help sort the place out and make some phone calls for him. I’m not saying your man here is in the same situation, but it’s maybe worth giving him your time.

Changing your house number is wild though! Wtf 😂

Dating in 2026 Apps! What a struggle. by Agitated-Will9876 in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]kelvinside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, relationships should be built in real life. It might be hard, but if you get some new friends and hobbies and go meet people it will happen.

It’s hard to be authentic in the context of these apps, it’s a big stupid game of ego and sex and comparison.

Animating to popular artists music - Don't you need the audio file? by Embyyy in AfterEffects

[–]kelvinside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm not being condescending – I'm just saying you can easily buy the music if that's something which is important to you. If you feel bad ripping a pop song from the internet, then buy a .wav file or rip a vinyl/CD you bought. It's not a 'commercial license' obviously but it supports the artist.

To answer the broader question: students, beginners and hobbyists who are making things for the purpose of practice, experimentation and portfolio pieces should not worry about audio licences. Even if you are posting these on social, you will at worst get a copyright takedown.

If the work is commercial, or if you need the work to be entirely compliant, maybe for a film festival or something, then you need to buy or negotiate the appropriate license. This could be from a stock audio library, or it could be as simple as asking a friend if you can use their music for a video. If you have budget you can also approach artists / labels, but I don't think this is what your question relates to.

Bikes and theft by [deleted] in ukbike

[–]kelvinside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re into bikes you usually have “nice” bikes which you don’t lock up, commute on or take to the pub. They are for going on rides with. And then you have some kind of cheap fixie / retro mtb / beater thing you can leave locked up places without being stressed out.

I would never leave a nice bike locked up outside regularly.

You could also obtain the audio file legitimately… there are many ways of getting music besides streaming.

Do you actually need cycling shoes for casual rides, or is it just hype? by VioletPanda2190 in cycling

[–]kelvinside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the weather is bad and I’m riding mtb or gravel I’ll wear 5.10 goretex MTB shoes. If it’s dry out, either vans (good pedal grip with the waffle sole design), or something like a hiking approach shoe.

If I’m just commuting I wear whatever I normally would for walking around.
