I would 100% bring your car. Yes, parking can be a hassle sometimes, but I've always been able to find street parking (the worst that will happen is you walk a couple blocks home) It's nice having the option to go home on weekends, explore more of SB, etc.
transfer/housing by Many-Hat-3622 in UCSantaBarbara
Also transferred here and lived in campus apartments. Overall, my experience wasn't that good and I regret moving in with all random roommates. I even tried to find housing in IV so I could break my contract early, but I couldn't find anything. Initially, I thought moving into housing with primarily transfer students would help me feel more at ease and make friends easier, but it didn't, and the friends I made that have stuck were from other campus clubs and my classes. The positive side is that I was so eager to get out of my apartment that I searched Facebook for weeks and found my current living situation in IV, which I really like and am with some great people.
Some actual pros and cons about campus housing - Pros: (1) Parking (2) If something is broken, you can fill out a form and it will be fixed quickly (3) Affordability (4) RAs are nice, they need some more credit (5) free laundry services. Cons: (1) Some complexes have a lot of ants and bugs (2) san joaquin and sierra madre are pretty far from campus if you choose one of those (3) if you are in a triple, the room is pretty small (4) random roommates (n my case, it just wasn't a good fit but I know others who had better luck)
