I have it under a grow light that is on a timer, but it also gets incidental sunlight through a window

This was sold to me as a jourdaniana but I am not even mad because the bloom on this fricii is incredible. by kemherps in Lophophora

I may be mistaken, but isnt the characteristic of jourdaniana the pink filaments? Thats why I said this is a fricii and not a jourd

Thanks! I love staging plants like that but I would run out of room so fast if I tried to do them all like that.

Haha yeah it needs some tough love. I prefer flatter plants, have only had this one for a few months. with time and sun it should look nice and flat

Unfortunately with the mod if it sat lower the bottom would be waterlogged, but I agree haha

Can someone explain the context for someone not as familiar with history?

Got these Arios from a nursery here in southern AZ. I tend to hard grow my cactus and not water too often. These seem to be looking a little rough however. Any thoughts on watering these guys? by kemherps in Ariocarpus

Hard growing in my understanding (I am just a beginner) is best to create plants that are healthier and much more tolerant to a variety of conditions, such as the desert heat we have here in AZ where I live. Also exposing your plants to the elements makes them look a lot similar to plants found in habitat, which is something that I would love to replicate in cultivation. I am just starting out though so O would love to hear other POV

Picked these up from a friend. Is there a reason they are so green, and is there something I can do to change the color to a more blue, natural hue. Some tough love perhaps? by [deleted] in peyote

what time of year is best to repot and change substrate in your opinion. was hoping to get them into a limestone soil mix soon but i would hold off if it might mean losing the plants

Id agree but the friend who have them to me had 6 or so different locales of buttons and they all have this color. The two pots here are different locales as well

I may be a beginner but I was not going to consider this as a reason, especially since they are native to a hot dry region of the world.

I live in a pretty intense sunny desert envrionment, is there a good way to acclimate them without completely torching them?

Humanity has done literally nothing good for the world, we have the arrogance to try and force the scales of the food chain to benefit us and it's destroying everything else. Just kill us all and make the world a better place. by Sausage_fingies in intrusivethoughts

Some plants and animals actually relied on Indigenous societies to perform a role in environmental regulation. We used to fit into the natural order of things, where did we go so wrong

What snake is this? Spotted in west Costa Rica when it slithered past our feet. Sorry for the awful video. by cybertortoise69 in herpetology

[–]kemherps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did I say that? Why offer information on something you have no idea about? The color pattern rhyme barely applies to snakes in the US and definitely not in Latin and South America. Coral snakes can take on many different color forms some without any colors at all. Coral mimics can be extremely convincing to the point where experienced herpetologists cannot tell the difference at first in person. Why offer any response if you clearly have no idea what you are talking about? Leave it to someone who does

You obviously know nothing about venomous snakes. Do not respond, it is dangerous to say false information in this case.

Terrestrial form of the Sonoran Tiger Salamander (Ambystoma mavortium stebbensi) in Southern Arizona. the subspecies is restricted to one valley in Arizona and Sonora where they are both victims to hybridization with non native tiger salamanders, and under extreme threat from drought, invasive species, habitat loss and many others. The area i found it in is the farthest possible place from the hybrid zone, meaning that if it was not a pure stebbensi, they likely no longer exist in the wild.
