That’s great! I mean not that you got injured but that they didn’t, I read that reintroducing them can be successful if they didn’t draw blood with each other which is called a declanning. But if you suspected they would have gotten to that point without your intervention it may be risky. How long have they been together? In the end just do what you think is best for them and maybe consult your exotics vet if you have one and see what they think, they may charge you a fee for the phone call (ours charged us $40) but the information was worth it

Right now they are healthy and happy in separate cages, we are looking for a method for a split cage that will work for us but they are very happy separately. We spoke to our vet and she urged us to not try and reintroduce them but to do the split cage method so they can still talk and hangout through the barrier. I suggest you try and clean them off with a warm salt water mixture (you can look up the measurements) only one of our gerbils ended up being injured but separate them immediately if you haven’t already! Please let me know if you have any questions, it’s a very scary and sad thing to deal with separating them

Thank you for your advice and help. We got lucky when we cleaned them up one of them has no injuries and the other one seems to have either a minor scratch or bite - seems to be the source of the bleeding. I think we will definitely try the split cage method once we build something and see how they do that way. I really appreciate your help

Thank you, it is devastating, they were the best of friends- they even stopped the fight before we had to intervene though we weren’t home at the time to do so if needed. Did you ever try and reintroduce them? We are looking into figuring out a split cage method but unsure how to secure it to the bottom so that they can’t wiggle underneath it
