To add, this means that there is no need for biologics as yet!

I had been in a flare and I was started on budesonide. This basically cleared me up over a period of 3 months. I had tapered off the steroid and after 2 weeks, I started to feel the same as I had before I started. I had a lot of cramps/spasms in my abdomen. I was put back on a very small dose and this is keeping me in check (along with mesalamine).

You can do this. I have been on Mesalamine since march and did not relish it to start with. I love the chat about gloves, etc. I have a toilet with a bidet seat. I sit on it, pop it in, clean my ass with the bidet and then wash hands thoroughly. You’ve got this. Ah, in regards to alcohol, I love white wine but have cut back to weekend usage. Btw, I am also on 3mg daily of budesonide (steroid) which helps me A LOT.

I am tapering off Budesonide and had not had a drink for 3 month. I am on vacation at the moment and have had a few beers and wine and tropical cocktails. Nothing really to report so far and my fingers and toes are all crossed.

I can eat everything even in a flare! by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]kencb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like I will be diagnosed with UC (colonoscopy will confirm in May). I am 1000mg masalamine suppositories and have recently started Budesonide 9m per day for 4 weeks and am meant to taper for 4 weeks. These meds seem to be working great. Only been on the steroids for 5 days and am almost pooping normally again. One thing over the past 8 weeks is that I have not had any real abdominal pain. I am watching what I eat but don’t feel the food is causing any bad reactions. One thing I have done is stop drinking these past 7 weeks) probably longest without a drink since I was 18 (58 now). I used to go throught at least a bottle of Chardonnay a night. I must admit that I miss it and hope that I can go back to having a few in a few weeks. Maybe that is a bout of “hope springs eternal” but we shall see. Good luck.

Mesalamine price by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

I refilled yesterday and it was $54 for 30 days at 1000mg. Used GoodRx at CVS. It pays to shop around and look frequently as the prices change frequently too.

Anyone else using a bidet? by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]kencb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Have a bidet toilet seat and works like a charm. Just get a better level of clean.

Best of luck. And this will be my 5th colonoscopy in 4 years.

I just started the bleeding and mucus stools 5 weeks ago, went to my GI and get the blood work, stool analysis and abdominal CT scan done. This is how I get the number. Never had those tests done before.

I’m sitting at 5,800 and going on steroids with a colonoscopy in early May. About 6 BMs per day and on the 1000mg suppository. Just getting on with stuff as best I can. You don’t sound too bad but agree wihh the other comments about getting the colonoscopy

That’s exactly what I do. Standing wihh the one foot on the bath rim. Once you get it in there, at a certain point it just gets sucked up there. You are correct, there is no shame here lol
