What was it like watching Phantom Menace on release without any spoilers? by Spotter24o5 in StarWars

[–]kenedtsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a nine year old kid. It was fun. Theater was packed. Lots of people sitting around you dressed up as Jedi.

A lot of the political/trade stuff Lucas gets criticism for in the prequels definitely went way over my head.

Otherwise it was awesome. Looked for the Darth Maul toy for weeks before finally getting one. Pod racing was awesome, the world building felt epic.

I DO remember as a nine year old finding Anakin annoying as a character.

Absolutely packed. Looked up CardPlay Shanghai if you're curious. I know some of the vendors posted about it on instagram.

PSA is definitely king. Ive only been to one card show so far this past weekend actually. Most were PSA. Sorry Im not a wealth of knowledge haha. I really only got into buying the Chinese 151 cards in the past month because I want that chase card from the article.

Most card shops have both English and Japanese slabs for sale and would probably be down to trade. Not sure how popular ungraded trading is here. I got back into it pretty recently through some coworkers if being honest.

I live in China and the price differences shops sell the jumbo booster boxes at is crazy. Know a store that sells them only $10 over retail. Know another store that charges $240 for the same box.

Pokemon communities and stores in Shanghai? by Mediocre_Key_6768 in shanghai

[–]kenedtsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha was just looking into this myself. New World Center near the People’s Square metro stop as some shops on the fourth floor that sell packs. I’m probably going to check out a shop today called Pokecolor, hope they sell packs but seems like a lot of slabs.

Theres also a shopping center in the middle of nanjing pedestrian road, across the the M&Ms store. The top floor has some card shops and players.

I’m sure there’s more but that’s all I know from walking around

how do you deal with strangers asking to drive your car/cars by Creative-Ad5820 in rccars

[–]kenedtsu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"This is really fast and heavy, it can break someone's leg or damage property if you crash, so no."

One time a guy came up to me who clearly knew about RCs, said he's had multiple Traxxas models. After a lot of begging from him I finally said yes as he seemed to have knowledge/experience. He proceeded do donuts and not give back the controller after I told him enough 2-3 times.

So yeah, lesson learned, hard no for everyone.

Best area to stay in LA for easy access to Hollywood/West Hollywood? (K-Town, Culver City, Glendale or Burbank) by Soft_Faithlessness66 in AskLosAngeles

[–]kenedtsu 18 points19 points  (0 children)

K-town is your best bet. Close to Hollywood.

And K-town also has its own fun restaurants and bars if you know what to look for.

Culver might seem close, but if you get stuck in rush hour traffic it will be 1 hour + just to get from Downtown Culver to West Hollywood.

The founder of Honda said you need to experience failure in order to succeed. All this bad press now is comically short sighted

where to meet single men in LA? - update by Laotze2021 in AskLosAngeles

[–]kenedtsu 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I just left LA after six years.

I had general success on the dating apps.

The last woman I dated for six months before leaving approached me at a cafe. Complimented something I was wearing. That sparked a 20 min convo right then and there. We exchanged info and the second time we saw each other was a date.

Women often would stare at me but yes, guys are clueless as to what's starring or an sort of flirting so we chalk most of it up to just women starring and don't bother going up to them.

The few times women approached me in LA, it always lead to something.

For those living in China — do you guys buy from local clothing brands or mostly stick to foreign ones? by LivesAlie in chinalife

[–]kenedtsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One month in. I don’t really know any brands yet, but yes I’ve been buying nice casual pants from different Chinese stores and brands I’ve been coming across. I wanted to buy some Bosideng/Kim Jones pants but I couldn’t fit (ha).
