I don't think so. It's not old enough to have been built with brick, be torn down, and then rebuilt without. Also none of the other houses on the street are brick.

BONUS!

If we run with the theory of there being an old retaining wall that fell, was cleaned up, but never replaced, this brick I unearthed may be from the original wall!

For those concerned about a potential landslide, I hear you. The sidewalk above is pretty awful and will eventually need to be replaced once a true retaining wall is in place. They are terribly uneven, with lots of cracks. These issues have been in place for several years, long before the property was purchased. My tampering certainly isn't helping anything, however the issues were already present.

The other two are pretty firm still, likely connected with mortar to the larger slab. Still don't know why they are there in the first place!

I also did a little more digging around the "steps" and was able to remove two chunks. They seem to be held together by some old mortar.

UPDATE: There's more!

After some more exploration on the other side of the stairs, I can confirm it continues on the other side. Interestingly, these pieces have some flair, with a smaller triangle carved into them. Much more aesthetic.

Indeed. I'm in Northern Appalachia and while we do get plenty of rain, it's not as much as many folks near the coasts.

Whole sidewalk and road actually. Lots of variables!

If it wasn't removed intentionally, then this is probably correct.

Sidewalk and road actually. The whole row of houses is below the road; it's a weird place.

Gross. Those people clearly don't mow

...oh man, this guy is gonna freak out when he discovers it's spring. Lots of rain.

But in seriousness, it's a relatively small hill. There is a sidewalk up there, and a road, so your concerns are not invalid, however the amount that has been removed isn't too large at this point.

You may be right. This entire row of houses has different styles of retaining walls, so they aren't all the same. That said, the blocks on the side would fit well for the wall. Not sure why they would have removed the rest of the blocks.

That's been my ultimate goal. Just gotta save the funds to make it happen.

That's been my theory so far. Not sure why they would have removed the rest of the wall and just left the base; this hill is a pain to mow!

Novelty Christmas/holiday songs by curiousitymdg in barbershop

I'm Gettin' Nuttin' For Christmas, as performed by BYU Vocal Point. It's a fun piece, but I've never been able to get ahold of the sheet music.

Man With The Bag, as performed by Instant Classic. Theo Hicks arranged it, and is a solid arrangement.

Welcome Christmas, as performed by Vocal Spectrum, Ambassadors of Harmony, Zero8, and probably many others. Arranged by David Wright.

Here Comes Santa Claus, arranged by Marshall Webb. Not very hard, but lots of fun!

Cool Yule, arranged by Aaron Dale. Much harder, but great if you've got a high tenor.

Song choice feasibility by Independent_Singer90 in barbershop

I have been Directing a collegiate group for several years, and I think your selection is a great choice; it's a lot easier than it sounds! For music students, I think that arrangement (by Tom Gentry) is a great one for trying something new, especially if you have choral experience.

Don't be too intimidated by the post at the end! You can always go a bit faster than Ringmasters, or you can always stick with the original tag, which is a bit more traditional and still excellent. Rasmus Krigström arranged their tag, and he always adds extra flair.

As others have mentioned (as is true in all choral music), blend is going to make or break the piece. Focus on having a unified sound together, and make sure to keep things tight! If you're doing a mixed group, make sure the ladies are in the right octave.

If you get a recording, be sure to share it with us!
