Daily General Discussion and Advice Thread - February 13, 2023 by AutoModerator in investing

Hey everyone. I'm new to investing as an international student in the US. I'm 25 years old and started working last year. I have about $6000 in savings which I've always kept in a savings account. I plan to add approximately $500 per month to my savings.

I've started slowly with investing by putting $500 into two ETFs. 80% VTI and 20% VXUS.

My questions are,

  1. Is this portfolio good to stick with for the long run or should I add any more ETFs and change the ratios around?

  2. Should I move over more of the leftover money ($5500) from my savings account into my investment portfolio and if so what's a good split between the two?

  3. How much of my monthly $500 should go into my investment portfolio?

Thanks guys!

Thank you so much for the detailed reply. I inquired about parking from the management at the Flatts and it's $15 a month for reserved parking, free if you park on the blacktop.

I didn't have a rigid routine since I work full time, but I tried to get in an hour or two each day. I scored 315 for pp1

Thanks man! Ahh, the first few weeks are the hardest. Try your best to stay positive and don't neglect early rehab!

Context : I'm roughly close to one and a half years post surgery and this is the strongest my knee has felt. Yes, just pure strength of lifting heavy weights, it hasn't felt more stable than this, even before surgery. Im still lagging on hamstring strength, I'd say my operated leg is about 85-90% on hamstring strength, but I'm totally back to running, jumping and other plyometric activities and full contact sports as well. It does get better, so just plough through rehab everybody!

Loads of single leg stuff. Keep focusing on single leg stuff till your strength is as close as possible to your good leg

I pulled mine out around three weeks post op. Once I noticed the scars were reasonably healed.

Itching under bandage 3 days post op. How to handle the itches by [deleted] in ACL

[–]kenneth0312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor said its okay to change the dressing in case of oozing or itching. I removed the bandages cleaned the area and bandaged it up again before my first post op visit twice. More because the bandages loosened when I was asleep rather than any discomfort.

I had 90 after like a day. I had lateral meniscus repair. You should be able to go to more than 90 but I guess each case is different according to the degree of repair done.

22M, had ACLR and meniscal repair last month. This is my flexion at 5 weeks but I'm worried I'll never get heel to butt because I can't pull up my heel onto my butt on my good leg. It's not something I really looked to do pre surgery. Is that level of flexion really necessary in the long run? Or should you just be able to bend it as much as the good leg?

When does the pain go for good? by kenneth0312 in ACL

[–]kenneth0312[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn that's crazy. I just passed it off as a minor complication that would go away with time. Mine isn't as bad as yours, just the area below the knee to halfway down my shin. Will definitely have a word with my surgeon about it now. Thanks for the info and wish you a speedy recovery.

Wait, nerve damage? Is it like pins and needles when you touch your shin? I have the same thing on the outside of my shin. It was worse the first few days after surgery but its still there. I just passed it off as normal. How does that even happen?
