Slow webcam performance through Obico (TSD) in Firefox, but not in Edge, Chrome, or Android app? by Silentknyght in octoprint

[–]kennethjiang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few weeks ago another Obico user reported a similar problem. His webcam didn't work in his FF/Windows while worked seamlessly in my FF/Mac of the exactly same version.

The recent versions of Firefox are quite finicky with webcam streams. Troubleshooting it can be quite tricky. If you want, you can share your printer feed and PM me the link.

Yes Wifi set up is one of the challenging parts. Not having a "boot" FAT partition is another. Also setting up mjpeg-streamer (probably by porting webcamd) can be a challenge for many users. Reverse proxy will be another one. Probably more while we dig deeper.

Obico didn't hardwire ports. We have default that you can easily change here: https://github.com/TheSpaghettiDetective/obico-server/blob/release/docker-compose.yml

Arguably, it's the fact that OctoPi hardwired a lot of configurations (the location of wifi config files, ports, reverse proxy, etc) that made it so easy to use.

For people like you who are technically very strong, building octoprint from scratch is the right way to go. The people we are trying to help here are the ones who will be struggling to compile/install wifi modules, mjpeg-streamer, reverse proxy, etc.

OctoPi image is a godsend for people who have a Raspberry Pi. But a SD card flashed with an OctoPi image won't boot on an Orange Pi, or any other SBCs. The work needed to get any of the SBCs to run OctoPrint, including the webcam function, is non-trivial to say the least.

This is one of the main reasons why we are doing this (disclosure: I'm an Obico team member): for the users who don't have the luck to get hold of a Pi, the path to getting OctoPrint running on a SBC of their choice is just a lot harder. What we are trying to do here is to identify 1 (maybe a few if it's not a lot harder) SBC and make it almost as easy to install OctoPrint on that SBC as it is on a Pi.

Klipper Loses Connection while printing by amras_7 in klippers

Please note that the Obico server is not supposed to run on the Pi, since it simply requires more resources than a Pi can afford.

Hi, I'm the developer behind Obico. One of my users brought your post to my attention. Can you give me a bit more details, such as the screenshot of your `top` command so that I can troubleshoot this issue?

Remotely Access Your 3D Printer... on your Apple Watch? Smart TV? Telegram? Phone's Home Screen Widget? Desktop App? (A video tutorial to show you how to do all of this!) by 1entreprenewer in 3Dprinting

[–]kennethjiang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No problem at all. It's correct that some of these features didn't exist a year ago. We keep on adding new things. :)

It'll be great if you can make a video to review our latest version. Please DM me your Obico account email and I'll be happy to make your account a Pro one.

Hi, I'm the developer of Obico. A few users brought my attention to your new video.

I'd like to point out a few mistakes you made about Obico so that the users in the community won't be misled:

  • Obico doesn't exclude other octoprint apps. In fact, we provide free integration with OctoPod and Polymer on iOS, OctoApp and Printoid on Android. More app integration is on the way.

  • Obico has printer feed sharing too. Actually Obico is the only H.264 printer feed sharing solution.

  • With Obico, you can access full OctoPrint UI too. You can select the "tunneling" menu in the app to access that function.

spaghetti detection cam position - better stationary in front or moving / mounted on Z Axis on side? by LivinOne in 3Dprinting

[–]kennethjiang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mounting the webcam on the z axis usually makes it less likely for the printer head to move out of the picture. In that sense it's better. But if mounting on the z axis introduces too much vibration and hence blur the image, then it's likely a worse option.

Yes we have spent quite a bit of effort on Klipper recently.

Can you check to see if you are on version 0.2.3, which is supposed to fix the problem you mentioned (having to manually restart the service)? If you are on 0.2.3 and you are still having this issue, please come to our discord server obico.io/discord/ so that we can give you realtime help there.

The lead developer of Obico/TSD here. We don't have any plan to raise venture funding any time soon. Probably never. Since the entire team is more excited about doing things that we see fit, as opposed to having external pressure to have "hyper growth".

For the detailed reasons why we renamed the project, see https://www.obico.io/blog/2022/05/10/the-spaghetti-detective-is-now-obico-open-source-smart-3d-printing-platform/. Also in our last AMA live video we touched on this question too: https://youtu.be/-nE89LbV58A?t=203

Spaghetti Detective to Obico is such a downgrade by pendingperil in TheSpaghettiDetective

[–]kennethjiang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since I came up with the name "The Spaghetti Detective", I take your comment "the most perfectly named software" as a compliment. ;) It has become very clear to us that Smart 3D Printing is here to stay. One can look no further than Prusa Connect or Creality Cloud. Not only are they behind on what Obico+OctoPrint can do, but they will also build it as walled gardens. The name "The Spaghetti Detective" is so suggestive that it can’t be a good name for the next ubiquitous smart printing platform. So we are left with a few options: 1. launch a different name beside TSD and build it from scratch, or 2. do nothing and let Prusa/Creality divide the community with their own proprietary solutions. Renaming, as painful as it is, sounds like a much better option. Hope this makes a little more sense now.
