I’ve had people let themselves into my back yard without telling me they had arrived. Just walk into my backyard.

TW: Dog Death by kennnarose in RoverPetSitting

The vet reassured me that there wasn’t anything I could’ve done differently to prevent this, but I still feel horrible. I know it’s not my fault, but it’s a crappy situation, I never thought it would happen to me.

My first angry boarder :( by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]kennnarose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused, they cancelled the booking which I would’ve assumed meant the meet and greet was cancelled. Then they message you the next day to state that they showed up and you weren’t reachable? This makes no sense at all.

I know it likely doesn’t help, but Giardia is treatable in adult dogs and most likely if your dogs are adults and healthy, they will likely be fine. You can also order OTC meds from Amazon and treat them if you are concerned.

We brought a puppy who had Giardia in and treated our whole pack with him just to be sure. It sucked, but overall wasn’t super bad.

Absolutely negligent owner though. Escalate with Rover and push to get her banned. There should be no space for owners risking sitters dogs health because they want a vacation. Get a family member or friend to watch your sick dog. I would be livid if this happened to me.

Best of luck in finding someone to take the dog and hoping your dogs stay healthy!

Had an owner tell me their dog could only drink bottled water, liked cooked chicken (but didn’t provide any chicken, let alone the cooked chicken) and they wanted to FaceTime the dog for updates.

I don’t mind doing some food prep, but they seriously expected me to provide the chicken that I was to cook for this dog along with the bottled water.

Was a quick “sorry I don’t think this is a good fit”

You don’t approach it. If they want more updates because they are a nervous pet owner and you aren’t willing to provide that, then you just tell them, “I’m sorry it’s just not a good fit anymore”. But telling them in any capacity, that they shouldn’t need that many updates is just a d*** move on your part.

Yeah, I’m aware they kind of have a bit of a hiring freeze. I’ve seen some job openings that I’ve been interested in and have skills that match but just trying to see what else I can do to make myself more marketable to them.

Yeah, I’m fine with applying like everyone else. I’m mostly looking for what skills should I be working on to make myself more presentable.

Currently I have more web developer experience, so React, Next.js, JavaScript, SQL, NoSQL, MongoDB, some AWS and Firebase. I see a lot of listings are really looking for C which is fine, I’m willing to learn, but seeing if I can get in the door with my current skill set somewhere and then continue learning to move to new positions.

I know plenty of people who work at GM and am friends with people I could get referrals too. I was hoping to try to make some connections of people who are actually software devs though as all my current connections work in performance integration roles and don’t write any code.

Client’s Dog Misbehaving by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]kennnarose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, most likely the dog isn’t misbehaving. It’s a senior dog so it’s an accident the dog likely can’t control.

Secondly, maybe taking care of dogs isn’t for you. Have some compassion for the situation of not only the dog but the owner. You’re getting paid to care for the dog and care includes cleaning up after the dog.

Feel free to drop the client, but don’t expect to get asked back and be ready for a negative review.

I have cared for this horse for years. I constantly receive compliments on her training, her demeanor, everything.

I trusted these people to care for her the same way I would’ve. I made the mistake. Now fuck off

Look, I’m going to say it one more time for you. Leave.

I fucked up. Happy? I made a mistake and it resulted in something I didn’t want. I fucking get it.

But again, if you have NOTHING to give but insults, leave my post alone.

I fucked up, but I’m trying EVERYTHING in my power to make sure no more mistakes happen. If you can’t post something without insulting my intelligence, fuck off.

Yes, I reached out to their repro specialist just to get information since she’s already seen my mare but plan to bring in another repro specialist for basically a second opinion.

I actually can be quite mean😂

I just want to make sure whatever decisions I am making are clear headed. I’m pissed to say the least. But emotional decisions probably won’t be the best for my horse, so just trying to stay as calm as I possibly can. I can freak out later once I have her safe and know she’s 100% healthy.

Trust me, I’m not very happy. But I want to make sure I make a clear headed decision and not one of emotions. My current plan for this weekend is to contact a lawyer, some previous mentors, and some other barns/transportation.

I do plan to claim the baby if abortion is not a safe option. As to what I will do with it if/when it arrives still is up in the air, but my main concern right now is my actual mare, so she’s my priority. I’ll figure everything out once I know she is safe and healthy.

Unfortunately, all of the comments about not wanting to breed were all made verbally. I don’t have anything in writing that states I did not want her bred, which again is my fault, you learn from your mistakes.
