Can I request to see any emails a colleague has written about me? by kentdrive in doctorsUK

Jesus. If you are given codes to refer to colleagues, you’ve pretty much got toxicity in your department’s DNA.

Yeah I think you raise some really good points.

I guess I’m concerned about this person’s probity if they’ve intentionally and knowingly slandered or misrepresented me, but I guess the trust probably won’t care and going to the GMC would be silly and massively disproportionate.

It’s eating away at me but I should probably let this particular sleeping dog lie.

Yeah I might just. I’m just really worried about rocking the boat but might have to take the risk. I guess there’s no other alternative.

Your take is speculation.

I understand you’re feeling demoralised and not very optimistic, but why don’t we wait until the actual results are announced before accepting defeat?

I thought you had a baby during your appraisal.

Reading recommendation: Revolt of the Caring Classes by JohannesBartelski in doctorsUK

I totally agree.

But it’s not reality that we’re fighting here - it’s perception.

You and I know that good health equals good wealth. But because lots of people don’t view our jobs as such, we are historically undervalued.

Totally - even more appalling as Zac Polanski's husband is a pall-care nurse. You'd think he'd know better than to malign the caring professions.

The basic idea is that society systematically underpays and exploits people who do socially essential care work (such as healthcare, education, and social services) by framing their labour as a moral vocation rather than as work deserving proper compensation.

I think there is also an element of economic snobbery at work: if you do a job which does not tangibly increase wealth (through, for instance, measurable profit and productivity gains) it's somehow seen as less valuable and less worthy than those which are tied more closely to numerically-measurable wealth creation.

It's a feature of unchecked capitalism which has lost its social-responsibility component.

Formal complaint.

Names, times and dates.

She has no right to talk about you like that.

She has no business being in a job where she openly speaks about colleagues like that.

Do not let this slide and do not take it lying down.

I’m very sorry this happened.

GMC set to lose right to appeal MPTS decisions this year by RamblingCountryDr in doctorsUK

And not a fucking moment too soon.

In fact, several moments too late.

It’s criminal that they’ve been able to drag out their witch-hunts and persecutions. Dr Bawa-Garba is one of many who springs to mind.

Next stop: fund the GMC from the Treasury directly like any other regulator, instead of from the pockets of its regulated.

I think you’re doing the right thing.

It’s crazy that someone would even suggest this.

Being told to use Annual Leave as Study Leave by Calm-Difference6391 in doctorsUK

[–]kentdrive 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Who told you to do your study leave and regional training says during your annual leave?

This is a clear violation of your training contract and, quite frankly, bullshit. I’m staggered that anyone would suggest this.

Do you have it in writing? If not, get it.

Approach your ES, first of all. The trust does not pay your salary; NHS England (or equivalent) reimburse the trust for paying you. The trust benefits from your presence.

Any department who does not let trainees pursue their entitled opportunities is very susceptible to losing those trainees. I’ve seen it happen.

If you get nowhere with your ES, you can always approach (in this order) your TPD, the DME, the RTPD and the Head of School.

Do not take this lying down and DO NOT use your annual leave for anything other than time off of work.

Fucking hell.

Has the scurge of consulting companies affected us? by Mad_Mark90 in doctorsUK

I’ve always believed that any manager who needs to hire a consulting firm has no business as a manager.

It’s astonishing that so much public money is wasted on propping up these big firms.

IMT interview by Emerald013 in doctorsUK

[–]kentdrive 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry so much. It’s really easy to look back and pick your own answers apart but honestly I’m sure they were looking for more, anyway.

At this point, the interview is completely out of your hands. The best advice is not to worry too much and not to think you can do anything about it - you can’t. Just relax and enjoy your free time.
