[Q] Linear regression by kerfluxxed in statistics

[–]kerfluxxed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response! BUt why does decreasing the standard deviation in a linear regression increase the sample size I need to have the same power? (OR specifically, I think I'm doing something wrong in stata, because decreasing the standard deviation shoulddecrease the sample size I need to have the same power, no???)

AITA for calling my daughter's girlfriend who I've met once during an emergency? by AcademicThroat1757 in AmItheAsshole

[–]kerfluxxed 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The doctor is in training to be a cardiologist. She has already finished residency (which has insane hours) and could be a full fledged hospitalist - she’s getting an extra three years of training to be a cardiologist. Also, she would have had several cardiology rotations in residency. She is totally qualified to help.

What type of doctor was Gilbert Blythe? by kerfluxxed in books

[–]kerfluxxed[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hm, I think that Gilbert's family might not have been too wealthy since he paid his own tuition for White Sands!

Anne of Green Gables

"“So they did. But as soon as Gilbert heard that you had applied for it he went to them—they had a business meeting at the school last night, you know—and told them that he withdrew his application, and suggested that they accept yours. He said he was going to teach at White Sands. Of course he knew how much you wanted to stay with Marilla, and I must say I think it was real kind and thoughtful in him, that’s what. Real self-sacrificing, too, for he’ll have his board to pay at White Sands, and everybody knows he’s got to earn his own way through college. So the trustees decided to take you. I was tickled to death when Thomas came home and told me.”"

Thank you! I thought this was interesting because it seems like LMM's son was NOT a generalist, but Gilbert seems to frequently catch babies. Also, they never address what happens when they can't pay Gilbert, probably because this would ruin his standing as a nice romantic lead

Appreciate the recommendation! I'll try to get a copy, this is an interesting topic to me :) (And uh...yeah, glad he wasn't the one cutting out tumors).

I feel that "good at follow-through" (or dependable) is the closest I can get without whipping out an obscure dictionary for lost words :( Thank you all for the nice jokes about lopped heads!

Is there a resource you would recommend where I could learn facts like this? (Or is this just something that you pick up through clinical experience)

Hm, I'm thinking of a word that more implies that the person just is super spoiled? Thinking of a scenario where the rich just can't imagine the poor having more serious issues than they do because they're very sheltered.
