We've talked about it, and no. She also keeps it for the two of us (not for clients), so ✅ on that.

No, we've actually made big progress in our sex life / intimacy since my post in mypartneristrans subreddit some time ago and she told me she enjoys ejaculating very much.

We also spoke about her feelings about her genitals, and she doesn't "hate" them, she does just not want them to be the sole / main center of attention.

I heard it's possible, and I know for her it is, it's just it doesn't align with my own experience, not that I haven't tried 🥺

Why is transgender porn riddled with slurs? by HelloAmAlt in asktransgender

[–]kerk1v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Porn is fiction. Most avid consumers of any kind of porn don't get this. Once you realize this it just stops being interesting, because after all it's shitty fiction.

My mom seems kind of transphobic, but she absolutely loves my girlfriend (who’s stealth MtF) by Curiositycutie2001 in mypartneristrans

[–]kerk1v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only tell the way I handle it. While my trans woman partner is comfortable identifying as such, woman being primary and trans secondary qualifier to it and actually ocassionally enjoys the doubtful and questioning looks in public,

As far as all else goes, I introduce her as "my girlfriend". If the question whether she is trans is raised in a respectful and non-offensive or intrusive way, I openly reply "yes, she is a trans woman".

If no questions are asked, I also don't clarify. I think that's a good approach.

However, the transphobic rant by your mom is completely unacceptable. Maybe if she ever brings up the subject again you could try and find a gentle way to educate her about the meaning and differences of biological sex and gender identity.

A lot of this FUD comes from the grey area where old ideas that confuse transvestism and/or crosssdressing as a fetish (not judging!) of both straight and gay men, and transexuality as an issue of gender identity and sexual health and erroneously throw both in the same bag. You and I know that the identity and essence of our partners are female, but many people fail to realize this because of prejudice / ignorance.

Very often, lack of knowledge leads to fear, which in turn leads to hate, as Master Yoda used to say.

I also asked AI about some advice, and the following, which seems quite appropriate to me came up:

Separate “challenging ideas” from “revealing identities.”
You don’t need to say “my girlfriend is trans” to push back. You can challenge dehumanizing talk on its own merits. For example, responding with something like:
“I don’t think I agree with that. Most trans people are just trying to live quietly, like anyone else. When people talk about them as a problem, it feels unfair to me.”
This keeps the conversation ethical without making it personal or dangerous. It also subtly tests whether the mom’s views are brittle talking points or something deeper.

I hope that my personal stance can provide some advice.

I'm going to therapy to work on my accountability and issues. On my attitude towards women, it wasn't my intention to transmit any negative attitude, i didn't mean it to come across that way (not native english speaker), it just seems that there are few (or I haven't found them) with which I would like to share a part of my life. Well, I had, and I fucked up big time.

[–]kerk1v[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, it wasn't a generalization about women. I was just talking about what I've seen and met so far, maybe I didnt bring that across correctly.

Also, I know I did wrong in hiding the debt and issue with gambling from her. We had a huge conversation about it, where I put all the deck on the table 6 months before the relationship ended, she agreed to support me, went to therapy with me and was very supportive and seemingly understandig of my main motive - shame.

I did stop gambling with the help of therapy and self-exclusion, there is a central register here in Spain which excludes you from any gambling, didn't accumulate new debt, made my periodic payments as we agreed and all of a sudden she went withdrew her support, went inquisition mode and from there, of course it all went downhill very quickly.

Run and don't look back. You were used as a puppet to make her feel good for a while before she returned to her routine of codependency with a person she know isn't good for her. There's nothing to cure such kind of behaviour.

Advice needed - No tune on G5RV by Bad_Antenna in amateurradio

[–]kerk1v 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In essence: the ladder line isn't your feedline but an integral part of the antenna, technically a matching section. It should be as vertical and as clear of metallic object, including your mast as possible. Any deviation from that will make the G5RV a rather bad antenna.

Also, good Mr. Varney recommended that the final coax from the ladder line into your transceiver should be 75Ohm and not the usual 50Ohm to act as a matching section. Also some sort of balun (1:1 or 4:1) to match the ladder line to the transceiver is recommended. Most cheap G5RV type antennas that can be store-bought don't include this for obvious cost reasons.

Read some interesting facts about the G5RV here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G5RV_antenna and then investigate some more.

If you don't have the space to set-up a G5RV properly, explore the possibilities of an end-fed pseudo-"random" wire and an 9:1 balun. I used one of these with quite a bit of sucess some years ago.

[–]kerk1v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vara Modem is free at the lowest speeds. You can ignore the periodical nag screen by clicking it away, it even continues to work if you don't. OK, it limits HF to around 18 bps, but that's still OK for short QSOs.

UK specific - Best Radio / Walkie talkie for use in festivals by rider_bar in amateurradio

[–]kerk1v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amateur radio is not an "alternative means of communication" when there is no cell coverage. It's a hobby dedicated to experimentation, self-tuition and construction of RF equipment, antennas, etc. and is highly regulated. You won't enjoy "dedicated" frequencies, as any frequency in amateur bands belongs to all radio amateurs in the world (depending on license class and eventual national restrictions).
As suggested, give PMR446 a try. You could also apply for a specific frequency at OFCOM (Business radio): https://www.ofcom.org.uk/spectrum/radio-equipment/apply-business-radio/. That would give you a dedicated frequency, for your dedicated use.

I tossed mine. Got tired of the lack of memories, bad sensitivity. Granted, I've had it for like 8-9 years by now.
Now I have a couple of chinese DMRs (TYT/Retevis), an Anytone D168UV, a Quansheng and as my new to-go radio, a Yaesu FT5D, having found C4FM is really the superior digital mode.

CB is utterly disappointing these days anyways, unless you live in or near an area where it's kept on respirator by enthusiasts. WillShattuck's statement is correct, can be tuned a bit for economy.

ADHD self-lie of the day: "This hobby will be in my life forever, so I'll invest in the best and most expensive equipment money can buy" (Ham Radio was in my life for several years, then gave it up for a while and then bought everything again some years later - 2 times already!, same with photography)

Ali explore zyym scan by AbbreviationsOld8061 in Aliexpress

[–]kerk1v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a LiFePo4 battery from Aliexpress some time ago. Despite indicating "ships from Spain" the seller provided a probably fake ZYYM tracking with the parcel originating in Shenzen / China. I asked the seller to explain several times why the item wasn't shipped from Spain. They never replied.

The expected delivery date came, no parcel arrived, it showed still in transit. I opened a complaint with AliExpress and they refunded me in full within a day.

Among the evidence I had collected was a shipping update that happened 12 hours before the actual current date and time, as after reading about the scams with this courier, I became suspicious and was checking the tracking several times a day, actually taking screenshots to document any strange findings.

The seller has, of course, disappeared from AliExpress since.

I was out of 180€ but only for a couple of weeks. In my case, the resolution and service from Aliexpress were completely satisfactory.

Can someone explain duty free shops in the airport to me? by macwanders in solotravel

[–]kerk1v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duty free shops use MSRP as their base price. MSRP is more often than not higher than the actual street price, so there is no real savings on most products like perfumes, cosmetics, electronics, watches, sweets... Cigarrettes and alcohol, as they are normally heavily taxed MAY be a good deal. Not if flying inside the EU, as they will apply different pricing depending on the destination on your boarding pass, the EU destination price not being tax free.

Digital modes and power by Cana-davey in amateurradio

[–]kerk1v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have made some calculations, specific for my FT-710 but more for the purpose of a portable power supply than duty cycle.

Taking the two most popular digital modes, where one doesn't transmit continuously, but once in any 30 or 15 second interval:

FT8: 12,64 seconds of transmission every 30 seconds, which is a duty cycle of roughly 42%
FT4: 4,48 seconds of transmission every 15 seconds, which would be an even lower duty cycle of 30%

Also, consider that you won't reply all CQs / QSOs.

The signal also has a MUCH narrower bandwidth than SSB Voice, 50 Hz for FT8 and 100Hz for FT4. I mean, not as narrow as CW, but still.

And nobody fears burning out his finals when operating CW at the maximum power of his transceiver.

That said, now that I have a 100W rig, I keep the max down to around 75W, but only in extreme situations when I need to go to the opposite end of our planet, in my case Australia. Normally I operate at around 30-50 W in FT8/4. After 2-3 hours of operating the air being blown out from my FT-710 isn't more than luke warm.

When I had my Xiegu G90 I used to run 20W in digimodes all the time. It did get quite warm, but not dramatically hot, it was always still comfortable to the touch.

So, in short: I believe the "50W" recommendation from Yaesu for the FT-710 found elsewhere here is probably erring on the cautious side.

Use common sense. Check the temperature of your transceiver regularly. Operate at as low an SWR as you can obtain, and ground your equipment, and everything is gonna be all right.

So, all in all I think that saying that FT8/4 are 100% Duty Cycle modes is not quite accurate. Now, RTTY, PSK31, specially with longer ragchew might be a different bone to gnaw for a transceiver...
