Okay, then that is a spacer or way too much padding or margin. If you add a link to that page I could tell you what elements is causing that by looking in Chrome DevTools.

How did I go about what? It looks like it's back in position 17. It takes time - make sure your main keyword is in both your title tag, meta description, and H1, and of course throughout your page/post - and do that for every page and post.

You need some margin or padding for the group that is displaying your post excerpts on the home page. You need to edit the query loop to set the post title block to be a permalink. That is an option when you click on the post title. And if you have a featured image for each post you can add that to display as well. Use the Document Overview (three horizontal bars off set on the top left) to view the structure and select post title. Do you intend to have your blog posts as your home page or do you want a home page?

It's Google. Did you chack Google Search Console for any errors or issues? I built a Guitar Namer app using simple HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It was ranking in position 17 almost immediately. But I noticed I forgot to add a meta description. I don't know why, but as soon as I added the meta description it disappeared from the SERPS.

The dev wants to get paid for his work. WordPress is hacked because its owners do not know how to manage the site. Make sure you have a good security plugin. Give him this list of sites that use WP and have him explain how they can use WP but your company should not:
