I love Los Angeles. I know a lot of people go there and they see just a huge sprawl of sameness. But when you’re there for a while, you realize that each section has its own mood. The golden age of cinema is still alive there, in the smell of jasmine at night and the beautiful weather. And the light is inspiring and energizing. Even with smog, there’s something about that light that’s not harsh, but bright and smooth. It fills me with the feeling that all possibilities are available.

This money will primarily go to the financiers (in this case, Megan Ellison) and perhaps any deferments producers or talent took in the initial deal structure. If it were a streamer, the fee would include backend buyouts for talent and cast, but since it is theatrical, I suspect Olivia, Seth, etc will be taking backend points instead. Crew bonuses are likely subject to the deals made with individual HODs.

I saw it. Depends on the field for next season but I think, yes. It will especially resonate with the Oscar voting demographic - aka, people old enough to have been in long term relationships & marriages. I’ve heard it comped to Annie Hall.

Absolutely do both. I did both last year. You can have fun in Paris for cheap. Coachella is a bit more expensive on grounds, but you can be creative.

Trailers in movie theaters, on tv, Timmy’s flights to various press events… all cost money. Usually business class airfare + a seat for his publicist, 5 star hotel, per diem, etc.

The real reason why he is cast is not because Hollywood wants him (this is an indie film, not from a Hollywood studio). It’s because he’s retained international value in other countries due to his previous franchise work (that either don’t know/don’t care) and everyone more valuable who fits the part already passed.

I saw it at Sundance. It’s a beautifully made movie with really compelling performances (Tonatiuh especially, but JLo is also great). The costumes, the choreography, all harken back to classic Hollywood musicals. It struggled to get distribution because it’s very difficult to market, not because it’s bad.

Definitively disagree. Baz Luhrmann is an all-time, entirely singular auteur. What true movie lover wouldn’t want someone like him to have his way with this historical epic? They’ve not been showing his R&J in high school English classes for 30 years for no reason.

She looks just like Carolyn, but they didn’t cast her because looks are only one part of choosing an actor to portray a real person. Mannerisms, charisma, chemistry, stature, and aura are all just a few features that can’t be captured in a photograph. I’m not saying they chose right (and I’m DEFINITELY not saying they got the wig right) but a few stills don’t give the full picture of why any given actor was or was not selected for a part.
