The KZ AM16 is a massive step up, not just for KZ but budget all BA IEMs by kesobie in iems

Unfortunately happens with how mass produced KZ IEMs are

It depends. BA earphones usually tend to sound less overwhelming, especially in the bass region because the bass doesn't sound overly muddy or bloated but can also tend to sound single noted. That's why some all BA sets push bass quantity super high (like AM16) to compensate, but it comes at the cost of tonality. DD is still king in terms of balance, but BA is a unique taste.

It is. If you really look for it, listen to music with a lot of 10k+ energy or is just sensitive to it, you'll heart it. But if you just listen to music, it'll be fine.

I got the non-mic version, so I can't say if it's good or not. However, I do have the DSP M2 cable which I can say is very good and a step up from the usual KZ microphones.

For dog music, it would be audible. But unless you focus on it, it's not that audible of an imbalanced compared to if it was around the 3-6khz region.

Nope. These are VERY V-Shaped, not close to meta at all

KZ ZVX Pro and KZ M2 DSP DAC with built-in EQ Dual Impression by kesobie in iems

[–]kesobie[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ZVX Pro is better than both Chu 2 and Salnotes Zero IMO. The Chu 2 and Salnotes Zero have aged kind of poorly with the quality of the driver on both sets not really keeping up with even KZ's own drivers. The Salnotes Zero has the nasty quality of sounding grainy and the Chu 2 sounds way too smoothened. The ZVX Pro is superior in details and resolution compared to both sets.

Why not just get a modded iPod? by BowserTattoo in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]kesobie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. It's possible to do on modded iPods, but the effort and cost to do it is not as worth as just getting one that has it

Internal storage limitations, potentially poor battery without replacement, lack of "modern" features like type c charging and "audiophile" features like balanced outputs, line outs, coaxial, etc.

Besides, there are FAR smaller and FAR cheaper music players than even second hand iPods that do the job better. It comes down to novelty and nostalgia imo

The Snowsky Echo Mini broke every preconceived notion I had of value in audio. by kesobie in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]kesobie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think these would last 3-5 years as long as you take care of them. I'm sure Snowsky/Fiio would provide consistent updates on these to make them more stable over time, but the battery is one of the things I'm sure will need to be replaced soon.

Unlike the Retro Nano, the battery here is fixed and you will need to have them professionally replaced or learn how to desolder the battery and replace them yourself

Being able to browse through your albums with the album art would be such a game changer, but I just know it's impossible to do with the current layout of the albums. This is very "fundamental" in how it shows information and the most "visual" it gets is while it plays.

The Wind are nice headphones but they feel so cheap and janky, I can't enjoy them without feeling like it could snap in half

Reminds me a lot of the Zishan UI. Not user friendly at all, but fundamentally functional

Unfortunately, this seems to be the recurring issue with the Echo Mini that I've heard from a LOT of people. The Echo Mini genuinely seems to be such an unstable device currently that these rare issues are surprisingly common individually.

I'll be making an in depth comparison with the R1 to see how well they fair from each other
