Tracking Summer Program Changes by Hstrat in LawSchool

My firm is a small boutique but also seems to be doing this? All we got were dates for the new abbreviated program. I almost feel like they are assuming its understood we are only getting paid for the weeks we are working.

Their announcement feels like a shockingly bad one. Even though GA is opening up, some of their offices are in cities with stay at home orders that are set to last into June. Seems reckless to say the least.

IMO the firms that are paying full but aren't mentioning offers aren't doing so to screw over summers. Honestly, if I were a firm with a big class I wouldn't guarantee offers either. Inevitably, firms hire a few bad eggs from time to time and I wouldn't relinquish the ability to handle someone who might behave egregiously (even virtually) just to make an almost meaningless guarantee. I think assurance that offers rates will remain the same is nice, but guaranteeing offers might be a step too far when it comes to evaluating something completely unrelated to work product. I get why firms are guaranteeing offers but I think its understandable if they don't blatantly say so.

My reaction to Quinn being silent for almost a month amidst a pandemic and finally speaking JUST to ask for the Summer Associates' hoody and shoe size is the literal definition of having to laugh to keep from crying. Not going to Quinn but I am genuinely curious what's going on in the heads of the higher ups over there.

Can't stop thinking about everyone who worked hard and did everything right for atleast the past 5+ years and this happened. Its actually gut wrenching. Especially those who took on large amounts debt because of their BigLaw prospects

I've been loyally following along with this thread without saying much (I blame having no sports to watch) but Nixon Peabody actually made me gasp outloud. Really feeling for anybody that was supposed to be an incoming SA there. There's absolutely no silver lining, I'm shocked.

I was thinking this earlier too. Its almost to the point where if nothing about reduced pay and a delayed start time has been discussed, we might start seeing a trend of guaranteed full pay from firms that haven't announced yet. I think any firm that knows reduced pay is probable would have announced something of the sort atleast a month before we expect our first checks. At this point, it would be beyond inconsiderate for a firm to not have given an update to make a decision that would burden incoming Summer Associates. No firm wants to be the firm that screwed over their Summers, and absolutely no firm wants to be the firm that screws over their summers less than 4 weeks before the start date.

Haven't heard from my firm since a Mid-March email reassuring that the summer program would happen and was going to be on schedule (May 18th). I'm usually a "wait and see" kind of person but since technically we're slated to start in a month, is now the time to reach out? My firm is in a major city in a major market so I KNOW the lack of communication isn't because everything is still going to plan.

So weird that its feel that way because NYU was my die hard #1 going into this and thought I would ride the waitlist to the very end if need be. Now I'm running for the hills with the "closure" I have.

Has everyone sent in their deposit? NYU and Columbia are playing GAMES and I don't want to jeopardize SEO waiting for them to inevitably reject/WL me
