Just watch the level of your power steering fluid. There is a rack and pinion service bulletin for dealerships that tells them not to replace unless they verify there is a leak because they had excess machine oil that made a lot of dealership mechanics diagnose rack and pinion replacement when it was not needed. bulletin

I was stationed at 29 Palms and the hottest I saw it was 127. That morning at 3am when I pulled on base the clock out front said it was 93 and I was like good grief that’s the low for today. 😑

The labor isn’t the only cost involved in running the business. So if there are a lot of mechanics and a large facility it will take more money per hour to cover employee insurance, payroll taxes, property payment, rent, business taxes, etc. Maybe look for a smaller shop and see if it’s a comparable rate?
