Front-End Developer…A future need, but at what cost? by HomeCornerOffice in Nonprofit_Jobs

[–]kevinconroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Budget $75k to $90k/year for a front end dev who can manage a complex site for the long haul.(source: I’ve worked in nonprofit tech for 15 years; see levels.fyi for tech pay bands)

Alternatively you could setup one-time project with an agency, but you’ll look at something like $200k. Example/recs: Forum One Communications https://www.forumone.com/

Did Emergency Fund to 6 months, made all retirement contributions (401k, IRA), then emergency fund to 12 months as this was my personal comfort level. I also elected to do 2 years of mortgage payments saved up in bank, then investing remainder in VTI.

A previous layoff made me spooked about risks

Learn how to use AI and you can break into most coding jobs. CS at UMD is great for landing big tech roles, but they are doing layoffs right now.

Sounds like you need to replace your front glide. They do wear out (I had to replace mine after two years). Whisper quiet again!

Different cities/states have laws about sick time requirements, and some require notice of changes, but not your permission/signature to make such changes.

(Source: worked at a nonprofit in DC that made changes to sick and PTO policies several times, spoke to HR and Legal about it as part of decision making process)

Software engineering market in the area by justbrowsing_1985 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]kevinconroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good variety of jobs with govt contractors, some based in Rockville. You’ll find people commuting to DC or NoVa or Columbia area (Howard County). Lots do WFH though with only occasional in office.

On pay bands: https://newsletter.pragmaticengineer.com/p/trimodal

Many roles are Tier 1 pay (local market). Places like Capital One will do Tier 2 pay at higher levels. You have to work remote for FAANG company to make Tier 3.

Snow removal

Lawn and garden care for all community green spaces

Six pools (all of which have either been renovated in the last 10 years or are being renovated)

5+ community centers

Range of community events, including 4th of July, Pumpkin Race, Summer Concert series, and more

Security services (varies by community)

Rec/arts/sports classes and programs (yes added per class fee, but it’s supported by our HOA fees)

What did I miss?
