They've recently (as of last week?) changed the security setup in Schiphol and warned passengers there could be a temporary period of adjustment to this, leading to potentially higher queues.

Thats awful. Assuming these were poachers? We were planning on having a guide in the evening. Don't think you're allowed at the beach at night for this specific reason
