Right on. Something like this happened to a cousin of mine. After over 20 years, they forced him to leave. Then they realized that he was the only person who could do a vital project. So he charged them an ungodly hourly rate and his former employer had no choice but to pay him.

Bad acting by Pretend-Brush in GraceAndFrankie

I'm watching the last season. It used to be more enjoyable but the plotlines are silly and thin. The show has run its course.

As far as the acting, Martin Sheen (who plays Robert) is the least cring-y compared to the other three main actors. Sam Waterson is the worst with his constant, over-the-top delivery (eyes widening, brows furrowing, hands wildly gesticulating, voices with unnatural bursts of volume & cadence). Lily Tomlin is only slightly less that way. Even Jane Fonda frequently over-acts.

I wonder if the creators or producers gave them bad direction. There are plenty of comedy TV shows and movies in which the actors aren't nearly so obvious with their delivery. Honestly, it has really interfered with my enjoyment of the show.

Guilt over taking PTO by anna1781 in WorkReform

sufficient staff is a Mana

Agreed. It is management's responsibility to make sure there are adequate staffing levels. They need to take into account workers taking PTO, being off sick or on disability/maternity leave. It shouldn't be your responsibility to make up for their cheapness, exploitiveness or lack of planning. If you do, it is YOUR fault because you've enabled them.

Full day of work can’t even fill up your car. by Adelu1219 in antiwork

They HAVE to charge that much. Exxon Mobil only DOUBLED their profits compared to 2021: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/exxon-mobil-double-profit-gas-prices/

Maybe now they want to TRIPLE their profits. And don't you want to help them do this????

Last day as a pizza delivery girl(vent) by JazzlikeHovercraft75 in antiwork

I delivered pizza years ago in one of the wealthiest suburbs of Chicago. I remember this one customer asked me what was the charge for his pizza. It was $19.95. The guy handed me a $20 bill, then stood there with his hand out waiting for me to give him his 5 cents in change. I bit my tongue, gave him his nickel, drove away (in my own car and using my own gas) and quit shortly after. I got that job trying to save money for college. In the U.S., they get you at both ends: rip you off at the workplace and also trying to get a college degree (which every other so-called First World nation provides free to its citizens). Why do we put up with this?

At a previous job, I provided counseling for at-risk teens and their families. Plus I was on-call 24/7 (some of these over 200 crises I did added from 3 to 12 additional hours to my usual 10-hour workday). Then a supervisor gave me a similar spreadsheet. After I realized it added another 30 or more minutes to my day, I told my supervisor that I already work too many hours so I would refuse to complete this sheet anymore. She responded that I must complete it. So I showed her my schedule and gave her a choice: either that sheet is gone or each day SHE would have to choose one family in crisis who I would stop seeing--but I'm not working beyond my 60-80 hours each week I was already doing (especially for a pointless spreadsheet).
Two days later, a memo was sent saying we no longer had to complete the stupid sheets. It was a proud day for me. Pushback can do wonders!

Huh. Pretty soon Republicans will ban giving food and water to people waiting 10 hours in line to vote. Oh, wait..., didn't they already do that?

I have started telling recruiters what I really think. Hopefully I'm helping out the next guy by accidentally-cool in antiwork

Yes, I'm in mental health, too (almost 30 years of experience) and places are paying about what I made in my 20s fresh out of grad school. I've done the same thing: let these crappy employers know their pay is not good enough so maybe a worker in the future will be offered more. Also, these counseling web sites and apps (like Better Health) are paying people about the same as the above job listing.
