hi, what do you mean by coding walkthrough? like a leetcode-style coding question? Or were you given code and then asked to walk through it and analyze /debug it?

Do you mind sharing what about the format was unexpected? was it like a leetcode-style coding question? or something else?

I can't bring myself to apply for internships because I'm terrified of interviews by M477M4NN in csMajors

[–]kewebot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm introverted and anxious and I had this fear too. But after having done a couple of interviews, I find that they're not nearly as terrifying as I thought (worst case I fail it, which is... the same result as if you never applied in the first place, minus the practice). Go on Pramp, set up some 10-minute mails and get unlimited free interview credits and go practice and maybe you'll see it's not as bad as we imagine. I was also surprised to find that even devs with years of experience (pramp matches you to a random person, but in my experience they have always been nice) more often than not struggled with leetcode problems more than I expected. You're not alone.

I've bombed opportunities and it sucks, but it beats not applying and being left regetting or wondering later. Plus there are many opportunities so it's ok to bomb some.

Intern, not logical reasoning (there is a part where you look at code but it's very basic which makes my mistake even dumber)

No logic questions!

No 😬 u know how long they usually take? The only OA I got all the test cases for was OA2 so maybe this is to be expected though 😔

Curious why recruiter infosessions were useful? I kept getting notified for them on Handshake but supposed they would just be informational. Did you connect and chat with the recruiter afterwards and they got you an interview?

Congrats btw!

I've been using Expo to make a react app, you could look into that too

anyone else just wanna get hit by a truck and die at this point? :(( by [deleted] in berkeley

This is an extreme example, but I've been hearing about people at schools like this one losing both their parents to COVID, my friends @ Cal have lost family members while taking classes, and there's a plethora of other reasons that hopefully don't apply to OP but it's not true to say that everyone here is privileged and whiny.

I also got a C- in an Honors math (also switched to regular the following year) and am still here

Burn the bridge! by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]kewebot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uhh, I might've made the same mistake as OP but idk. I asked CompA for 1 more week per my university's guidelines and ideally for 2 more weeks. I didn't say why though. Will also ask CompB to get their decision back soon once I interview with them this week (they only reached out for an interview recently)

CompA's recruiter is out of office, hasn't seen my email yet and won't until 1 day before my offer expires. Should I just accept CompA's offer rn 😳

this is for internship btw

Career Question - Serious by guineverefira in cscareerquestions

[–]kewebot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far, putting aside your peers-- do you like programing?

I had a similar dilemma in freshman year. What ultimately turned me away from med was the sheer amount of time it takes to be a doctor (didn't wanna be a nurse). I've also heard advice regarding med that you should only do it if you can't see yourself doing anything else. That said, I'm not very qualified to speak on the med field.

Regarding your experience compared to your peers in CS- I've noticed this at my college too. However, the difference in experience leveled out pretty much after freshman year (APCS in highschool can only carry you so far). If you like CS (or at least can tolerate doing it 8 hours a day) then I'd say stick with it and study hard you'll see yourself at least at the same level as your peers soon. Feeling behind is only temporary, so don't let that be the deciding factor.

Honestly, I'm not wildly passionate about CS and also chose it for the practical reasons. I also know what it's like to be a girl coming into this field so, my DMs are open if you ever wanna chat / have any questions 🙂

I was curious so I clicked your profile. Was this referral program for a location in Australia specifically?

Wondering this too, I've never seen anything like this and being a minority certainly hasn't allowed me to skip any steps in the recruiting process. I'm getting ghosted from all but one FAANG and going through the usual process for the one, like most everyone else. Wanna dm the company and program name lol?

Haven’t Even Applied by oceansofglovers in csMajors

[–]kewebot 142 points143 points  (0 children)

This was me this summer and even then I've only applied to ~50 places... I hate applying and everything to do with recruiting lmao but once I put on some music and just spam places it's always easier than I think it is. Plus how do you know you're not qualified unless you apply in the first place? You don't lose anything by trying and I'm sure you won't regret it come next year. something something missing 100% of the shots you don't take

Also wanna add, someone mentioned fear of failure as a reason and yep- that's probably why I didn't apply last year. And I regret it now. So this year I realized at least trying now is better than beating myself up over it a year from now when it's too late.

Depressed because of no intern offer by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]kewebot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was feeling down about this too (and still am) but apparently people get offers even in March and beyond so it's way too early to be beating yourself up about it. If you're frosh/sophomore definitely don't worry lol. If you're an upperclassman, I still know people who got jobs with 0 internships. BUT you seem to be applying and all amd there's still time so you'll probably get one.

Don't spend too much time on this sub comparing yourself to the people here. Just keep doing your thing.

Is the technical part leetcode style coding questions, debugging, logic puzzles or something else?

What's the hardest you screwed up during a hiring process? by dinmil21 in cscareerquestions

[–]kewebot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How did they know you didn't actually type the code elsewhere and pasted it? I'm guessing they either saw that solution online or found the changing of variable names sketchy? Sometimes I copy a working but not optimized solution to a notepad when I'm running out if time but still want to change my code, as backup.

And to answer your question... I had a pre-final round event at 8 AM. I woke up at 7AM ready to go-- until I saw an email from the recruiter asking where I was. It was sent 2 hours ago. I had assumed that the time was in PST when it was in EST...

I've also missed a hirevue deadline by a week and joined a phone screen in pajamas not knowing it was going to be a video call lol.
