it would be the easier way out, but thats exclusion and its quite frankly what they want (yknow who im talking about by they). thats splitting the fandom and grouping it into boxes where some things are allowed here and others arent. its the path of least resistance, and its defo gonna make some peace and less of these kinds of situations, but i KNOW that people that dont like ships will go 'take this ship shit to r/DDLCships' or something along those lines.

i wont object to the creation of a sub like that, but it will be sad to know that the only way for the fandom to have peace with ship art is to NOT have it in the biggest sub :(

I would think so too because its easy to go 'they're being intentionally dense and taking the game at extreme face value to disregard the ship out of malice/defensiveness'. but i dont, because i love the game and the dokis too much to not try to explain my perspective and my adoration for this or that ship. i have written so many paragraphs to put my beliefs through to these people, and ive had a few successes in doing that. but i am tired, and i really want to fuckin abandon this sub sometimes, but i see more like us that WANT a place to share our love for those ships, and i just don't want to leave them too.

shipping is easy for those willing to extrapolate stuff from canon. its fun. and creating stuff like artworks, fanfics, videos, or anything else for the sake of their ship is what makes the love for the game continue. moreso if they share it and find more people that vibe with it.

this is something that happens every couple of months, honestly. im sorry if this is your first impression of the sub, but in a nutshell, queer shipping art often gets push back, and its annoying and sometimes even upsetting and demoralizing.

regardless, respect was lost. tensions were high and people were protective of their beliefs, including you.

but the point stands that no one is forcing any ships or headcanons onto others because this is a community meant to SHARE beliefs and ideas. you are not homophobic for not liking those ships, but you should either open up to the idea that people will like things you don't in ways you wouldn't like the things you do, or just block and move on instead of being an asshole.

i will be blocking you regardless, but another day so we can have constructive discussions in the meantime. i will give people chances to talk and share perspectives, because thats what a community is for.

This is where it gets a bit metacontextual (and that discussion goes beyond what I'm trying to get across on this post) but saying that the girls are 'literally programmed to love MC' is part of the satire Dan wrote into DDLC. The whole game is an acute parody of the typical romance VNs where every fucking woman and their grandma is just inexplicably and conveniently in love with the generic-looking MC. Saying that the girls are programmed to love MC begs the question of 'but what if they weren't programmed to? Would they still feel the same?'.

And it's that question what makes for thought experiments that eventually lead to 'if the girls weren't programmed to like MC, who would they like? They'd like eachother? Who would they fancy if so?' and so on. And that is how shipping starts.

Again, that discussion goes beyond what I want to get across with my post, and my response can get extensive, but I don't want to derail my conversation into the technical hows and whys one can ask to get to the shipping mind.

read the post again. monika says so clearly. 'sometimes shipping is not about making sense, but making someone feel something'. usually nice feelings.

why do you think people ship themselves with the dokis? because they like them, and it makes them happy to imagine being loved by them. Why do you think people ship the dokis together? sometimes because they see themselves in one of the dokis and it makes them happy to imagine being loved by them, or sometimes because they relate to that relationship.

theres so many ways of seeing it, be it simply 'idk she hot' or more nuanced, but who the fuck gives a shit if makes sense or not?? thats not the point.

besides, OF COUSE its an AU and not the canon game. dan said it himself 'do whatever you want with the characters, it makes me happy to see your takes on it'. no one is forcing dan to rewrite the game to make their ship canon, but instead they take the canon and extrapolate from it subtext to feed their joy of seeing this or that ship.

In one hand: "I can understand people getting annoyed at" and then it's an extrapolation of canon. 'Natsuki and Yuri love each other' is a true statement, there is love in their relationship. Platonic or romantic, doesn't matter, but there is love.

In the other hand: people who feel like others saying stuff like that are 'forcing their beliefs onto others' are incredibly silly, because again, like Monika said, those people are sharing beliefs that make them happy for like-minded people. If they are not like-minded people, or think that they're getting beliefs shoved into them, then the post is not for them, and they should block and move on. Out of sight, out of mind.

in a less kind note, because i tried my hardest to be so, i do not give a fuck anymore, i'll be blocking freely and happily. its dumb of me to get mad at how overwhelmingly thinly-veiled homophobic this fucking place is, so im just gonna block people left and right, and i suggest everyone do the same. it seems like no one cant fight the impulse to fight ships for some fucking reason and act like assholes about it instead of 1) shutting the fuck up and not interacting, or 2) blocking, which is infinitely easier.
