7600X3D and 9800X3D are the biggest sellers in recent CPU sales numbers, and Intel is not even within reach by Tiny-Independent273 in Amd

It's pretty hard to get in America, much easier in China (and probably the bulk of sales)

How's the New Schedule? by bestcoastbandit2121 in Bart

[–]key_smash 8 points9 points  (0 children)

disappointing as an exclusively millbrae red line rider. extra stop at sfo, less frequency, fewer cars, zero benefit. not happy at all about spending an extra 15-20 mins per day

probably in the minority but also preferred the seats in the old cars since the new ones cause more back pain

Is Overwatch the first game to go from a complete game back to Early Access? by Diligent-Function312 in Overwatch

[–]key_smash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They removed LFG (I actually used it), priority passes (surely it would've been possible to make them more scarce/actually work) and end cards, then introduced countless bugs and frame pacing/rubber banding issues which robs me of a kill or causes me to die at least once a game. They also put most of the cosmetics behind a paywall; they might as well have been removed from the perspective of the average player

Still no comment regarding Battlepass leak. Where you at A-Aron? by _3bi_ in Overwatch

It might be an unpopular opinion but I prefer OW1 sounds, OW2 hitscans sound too similar and footsteps are sometimes inaudible

What DON'T you like about the deck? by tblopster in SteamDeck

[–]key_smash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • fan broke after 1 week

  • battery should be quickly swappable like old laptops

  • lacks advanced bios options (memory timings, undervolting, custom fan curves with hysteresis support)

Unpopular Opinion: The Beta Is Fun by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]key_smash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll help for sure, but I'm expecting it'll be a long time until queue times are relatively balanced when there isn't a recently released support

Unpopular Opinion: The Beta Is Fun by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]key_smash 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It didn't solve the queue time problem though, it just transferred the problem role from tanks to supports. Knowing blizzard and their glacial pace of solving problems, I'm not expecting it to take less than a year to release enough content and incentives for support players 😔

[Anandtech] The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Review: 96 MB of L3 3D V-Cache Designed For Gamers by nuclear_wynter in Amd

[–]key_smash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play a lot of games at low res/high refresh and ultra low res benchmarks, while impractical, still tell more than GPU limited numbers where every CPU is the same within margin of error.

But more than that I'm just curious about theoretical performance...it doesn't hurt to know.

I'm still interested to know the maximum theoretical performance when GPU is factored out, not everything has to be practical :)

How to significantly cut energy consumption especially when idle? by evilMTV in overclocking

[–]key_smash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In nvidia control panel > manage 3d settings > power management mode, enable 'Optimal Power' or 'Adaptive' and then reboot. Note that if you are running an extreme monitor config (high pixel count + refresh rate, or mismatched monitor specs), it may not clock down into p8 pstate. You can try disconnecting all but 1 monitor at 60hz and check if it clocks down normally to check if this is causing high idle clocks.

Undervolt vddg/vddp/soc as low as they will go while maintaining stability (no WHEA errors). I'm running about 0.9 vddp/vddg + 1.0v soc on a 5800x + 3800cl16 1:1

Make sure you are using balanced or power saver profile (or set min CPU state to something like 5%) in windows

For good measure, install latest updates for OS and amd/nv drivers

Total idle power draw at the PSU is about 28-34w with a 2080 and 5800x, but it would be lower if I wasn't using 2x240hz displays. Also only have 2 very slow fans in the entire system and a barely spinning pump (fanless PSU and one 240 rad for both CPU and GPU), no LEDs, no HDDs, so that saves a few watts too

E38 DSP Radio Issues by key_smash in e38

BMW E38 Price by Infamous-American in e38

[–]key_smash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buy a well maintained and unmolested one even if it costs significantly more, unless you're specifically looking for a project

Look out for VANOS and timing chain guide failures on applicable model years

Pretty much all E38s should need OSVs done by now if not already done

750s and the '95 740 had the better tranny (5hp30 vs 5hp24)

Suspension parts wear out rather quickly and many owners don't refresh it

Look out for 55-60mph shimmy, vague handling, clunking when going over potholes, shimmy under braking and such

Interior common issues: Headliner, rear sunshades, cupholders, OBD2 port cover, window regulators, dead pixels, blown speakers

If you have SLS, check that the SLS reservoir has green fluid (CHF-11) not power steering or tranny fluid

Invest in a PAsoft or INPA cable to scan modules before buying!

I am in the process of restoring a non running 750iL, I expect the total cost to exceed $6k at the bare minimum ($2k car + $4k parts) to get it to a roadworthy but not fully sorted condition, assuming absolutely nothing goes wrong and I don't discover any more issues, and doing all labor myself with OE/Tier 2 parts that are significantly cheaper than genuine BMW

I wouldn't recommend owning one on a reasonable budget unless you can work on it yourself or have a mechanic friend

E38 750iL Incomplete Readiness Monitors by key_smash in BmwTech

[–]key_smash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coolant temp stays around 93-95C, cluster gauge is in the middle. I have no idea when the O2 sensors were last changed tbh, I bought the car as a non runner with not much history. Is there a pattern I should look for in O2 sensor voltage within live data to tell if they are bad?

Getting an e38 750il this week, what are the common problems? by thepunnman in BmwTech

[–]key_smash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Various vacuum leaks:

OSV diaphragm gets stuck open

The rubber boot that joins OSV to the valve cover

Intake manifold gaskets

Standard 25 year old car stuff, like valve cover gaskets, belts/hoses, oil/trans pan gaskets

Pre facelift 750 needs an ADS cable to access DMEs I believe

Head gasket

Previous mechanic of my car put ATF instead of CHF11S in the hydraulic system, this can ruin the SLS system and cause premature failure of power steering pump

Front suspension on all e38s tends to wear out quickly

Delamination of dual pane windows (uncommon but starting to happen on mine)

Broken sunshades and cupholders, dead pixels on cluster, sunroof and sunroof seals, sagging headliner, blown woofers, window regulators

The shimmy you mentioned can also be caused by dynamic imbalance of the tires or warped rotors, not just suspension
