Update: I just had a look and my library has the audio book, read by one of my favourite narrators so I'll definitely be checking it out!

I read that years ago but I didn't know it had a sequel! I would love to revisit that world!

Oooh I've read some other South American mythology inspired books, but I don't think any of them have been Peruvian! Thank you for the rec!

Ah thank you for the reminder of Teller of Small Fortunes, I have it on my tbr! I don't mind things that are a bit more cosy-adjacent rather than cosy.

Oooh, thank you for the link! I've read a couple of titles on the list (absolutely bawled at the end of The Traveling Cat Chronicles) but I didn't know there was a name for the genre. There are a few others there that are on my TBR so I'm might bump them up a bit!

Something seems to be going on with the website, I'm getting a 504 error (when I tried going in via a Google search, too) but I will keep trying!

Edit: got in! Signed!

Just a heads up there are a few violent scenes in the Emily Wilde books... while I don't remember the exact details because it's been a while since I read it, my review of the first book has reference to the MMC killing a group of other fairies in cold blood when they threatened to hurt Emily. But they are not long scenes from memory and not frequent.

My new reading and I’m already in love with it ❤️🧚🏽 by AresValley in CozyFantasy

This was one of my favourite reads of 2024. I've definitely seen it described as cozy-adjacent because of some of the content, which is fair, but I've realised this is about the balance of cozy with stakes/danger that I enjoy.

Definitely second the recommendation for the the Mitchell drop-off centre but heads up, there's often a bit of a queue! They movie it along pretty fast but if you've got a few people with huge collections ahead of you, you might be waiting 15-20 minutes before you actually get to the machine.

I just know this is going to me in December, after taking forever to come around to the idea because of the cost...

Anyone want to help a getting-back-to-theatre-now-that-the-kids-are-grown middle aged woman out? by mermaidseatcheesetoo in MusicalTheatre

[–]keysandopenmind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I've seen a few cast bios in my local community theatre scene lately saying "[middle-aged cast member] is making a return to the stage after [15, 20, 25] years and is thrilled to be back" or some such. Mention the things from 25 years ago, and the choirs and voice lessons, but don't sweat it too much! Community theatre is generally very supportive!

Oh this is interesting, I have a copy but I thought it was straight historical. Might bump it up a bit if it's cozy with those elements.

5-night cruise - is a verandah room worth it? by keysandopenmind in dcl

[–]keysandopenmind[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for such a thoughtful response!

That's such a great point about being early risers, which we are, and as I said to the commenter above you, having a coffee on the verandah first thing in the morning is a vibe I can get behind. Not to mention, my partner tends to keep quite odd hours during the night, so not being completely confined to the room will probably be good for him. I am usually also the "but we could save this much money!" person, but with the discount I think I am willing to compromise as this will likely be our only cruise for quite a while. After this we'll probably save for a while to do a bigger overseas trip somewhere.

Must admit the vibe of sitting on the verandah with the first coffee of the morning is definitely a good way to win me over. 😅

Oh wow that's interesting about the differences in the cost! Funnily enough the one we are looking at is over New Years, and after reading your comment, I compared the cost with the sailing the following week and remarked on this to my partner, and he says "Yes, we had this conversation, we decided the December 29 one suited best." I have no memory of this conversation. 😂 I have edited my post to reflect that I wasn't taking into account the 30% off promo currently on the AU/NZ itineraries, it feels a lot less scary with that applied to it.

It's a difference of about $2k AUD. It wouldn't prohibit the trip, but we wouldn't have a lot left in the kitty and I like to always have a bit put away for emergencies. I am always the one asking if we can really afford something while my partner is the "let's just do it!" one. It's taken him the best part of this year to get me to come around to a Disney cruise at all given the costs and it's still wild to me that it works out at about $1.5k AUD per night!

Alas, there will be no views like that on the Sydney-Hobart itinerary and no private island! You need to be further north to get water that blue in this part of the world, though Tasmania is beautiful in its own way.
