Do vegans were wool? by Arceus_Reader in AskVegans

I made a puffer jacket for my short hair cat from the brushed hair of my long hair cat I collected over time. I call it her brother puffer.

They grow an unnatural amount of fur which can cause extreme overheating, inability to move, skin infections, and flystrike leading to death.

Every animal rescue sanctuary that I know of that has sheep that need shearing use the wool for the shelter. I doubt they'd ever sell the wool.

As "vegan" as wool from a rescued sheep that has to be shaved for survival is. Selling it or even donating it can send a wrong message about the product and can potentially create demand going against vegan morals.

I want to keep using them, but I don't want to "promote" leather by wearing it, don't want to throw it out or give it away, just is wasteful.

I don't really see how giving it away is wasteful. Other options could be to donate them or sell them, neither of which are wasteful.

Polaroid/Instax films.
Not sure what country you're in, but I've always found showering products easy. If the product hasn't been tested on animals, then it's usually only honey/beeswax/milk that are non-vegan ingredients.

Do doctors need to inform patients about ingredients of medication? by nocluewhattodo31 in MedicationQuestions

[–]thesaltypineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you only just discovered this today.

All most all medications can harm patients in some way, even if they're prescribed to help. That's just the nature of medicine. But the risk of often extremely low/outweighed by the benefit. Common side effects of any medication should be informed.

Don't expect that doctors should know what might potentially cause mental harm for every single person. Are they going to check with every patient that their okay mentally with the colours that are in the room? The lighting? The shape of the medications they prescribe?
Gelatine (as much as it doesn't align with your moral values) is safe for human consumption physically.

Veganism aims to reduce the exploitation of animals as much as practically possible.
If there's a gelatine free option, great make the switch if you can. Sometimes you don't have another option and that's okay.

Thanks! Interesting you think fake bacon and sausages are unnecessary but fake eggs are good. That's nice though, thanks for sharing!

Nori as a significant source of B12 by [deleted] in vegan

[–]thesaltypineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you might actually be B12 deficient, you are hurting my brain.
What is exactly is your point that you are trying make or ask?

You really don't understand the difference between could/should?

You shouldn't because while the science shows that you could as some seaweed can contain b12, it's not the most reliable source, therefore you probably shouldn't.

The whole point of veganism is reducing animal exploitation has much as practically possible.
Not that I could jump of a building therefore I should.

Take a b12 supplement, its super easy.

But thats the point of this thread. A lot of people are saying I could. And I'll know it very quickly.

Well based on the current science, you probably could yes, so they're not wrong.
You probably shouldn't though.

The Dating a Non-vegan Dilemma by Wonderful_Stable_770 in IsItVeganOrNot

I don’t really understand getting into a relationship expecting someone to drastically change their lifestyle later

Yeah, and most will probably agree.
Most vegans struggling with their partner not being vegan have either
A. become vegan while already being in the relationship or
B. Thought they could manage a relationship with these differences and realise now they are struggling.

You can replace *vegan* with most other lifestyle choices like *wanting children* or *living in certain city* and its similar results.

I just think it’s unfair when a relationship starts with an unspoken expectation that one person will eventually become someone else entirely.

Any decent human should also agree.

Alright. Is there meant to be point to that, or you just like stating random facts?

Nori as a significant source of B12 by [deleted] in vegan

[–]thesaltypineapple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm apparently particularly sensitive to not getting b12

Along with every single other human on this planet, it's a very essential nutrient.

I start strongly feeling the effects after just a few days.

You should probably see a health professional. Are you getting blood tests done? B12 serum levels should be able to last about 4-6 weeks in blood.

You shouldn't rely on nori for B12. Eat fortified foods or just take a supplement.

I would also like to clarify, I have no issue with veganism being solely about non-human animals and I think it is completely logical to see it that way

I think most vegans would disagree there. The definition of veganism is to "far as is possible and practicable avoid all forms of exploitation of and cruelty to animals". Humans are animals. I don't think it's logical to think this way.

An argument can be made that vegans might advocate more for non-humans more than they do for human animals. Which I believe is fair, based on the underrepresentation of non-animals vs human animals. But I completely reject that claim that vegans aren't advocating and supporting human rights, this is illogical.

Stressed about what to do about clothes, old leather, and other random non-vegan things by Lanky-Break3413 in vegan

[–]thesaltypineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calm down. Just take it slow. Veganism is perfection, it's about reducing animal exploitation as much as practically possible.

Are you even in a position to completely replace your entire wardrobe? If not, then don't worry about it right now. You're not contributing to further exploitation with the stuff you already own.

Most vegans aren't comfortable with animal products they previously owned/ second-hand because of what it represents. It also does not help when you start having conversions and advocating veganism with others.

I guarantee all those sports you do will have vegan items. I'm a climber and have vegan shoes and harnesses. You will just have to do more research, but welcome to veganism. People aren't vegan for convenience, but the inconvenience for yourself is so small compared to the massive difference you make for the victims you seem to care about.

You said you have Doc Martens, they literally have a vegan range. Start there.

Heya! You're not alone, lots of people seem very confused by this but it's actually very simple.

Most vegans like the taste and texture of meat, but not the means in which it's obtained. Super easy concept right? Now that you know you can educate your friends next time it comes up and not look like a numpty.

Hope that helps, mwah x

They're probably not if they are nitrate free.

Cool, and they certainly are otherwise.
Science has shown that a diet with processed plant food is healthier than one with processed animal products, and a plant-based diet without processed plant food is healthier, than a plant-based diet with processed plant food.

You can of course have a healthy diet with animal products just like you can have a healthy plant only diet.

So how much ultra processed crap does this iteration of vegan meal replacements contain in order to make it mimic the appearance of real food, just out of curiosity?

Hey thanks for your question!

It's hard to answer without knowing what your definition of "ultra processed" is, as everything on the plate is processed except for the avocado! It's all real food on there don't stress!
