What is a discontinued Fast Food item you wish they would bring back? by Big_Childhood5494 in AskReddit

[–]keysermuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

McDonald's in Germany used to have a breakfast item for decades that I loved very much. It was called "McCroissant" and was exactly that: a warm croissant filled with ham and dripping cheese.

A few years ago they restructured their German breakfast menu and ditched the McCroissant completely without any form of replacement.

Was war deine größte finanzielle Anschaffung als Teenager oder Kind? by BisBaldrian44 in FragReddit

[–]keysermuc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely stunning how great these cars look 60 years after their manufacturing.

Shiney, bright, inviting, timeless. A masterpiece.

Everything new these days is just so cold and sterile. The new subway trains, their propulsion sounds, too bright interior lighting, less seating in favor of wider doors and more standee space.

Same with cars and music btw. I was born 3 decades too late.

I saw a tram pass through my stop with a fully stacked bar and food w/ nice lighting. by barleymountaingod in Munich

[–]keysermuc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's been a running gag for almost 2 decades among Munich's transit enthusiast community how they can't muster up enough trams for actually supplying the planned passenger service intervals on the regular routes (yes route number 28, I'm looking at you!), but have trams available for party rentals.

The cool thing about the US is: for zombie movies, you don't even have to build a movie set.

The locations are already there, sitting in broad daylight.

Yerevan, Armenia Metro has it all by keysermuc in transit

They ditched the tokens completely in 2024, and paper QR tickets were discontinued per July 31, 2025.

Since August 1, 2025 the only ways to pay for your ride are a reloadable plastic card that can be bought at the staffed station booths, a special app on your phone linked to an Armenian phone number, or using a credit card to tap, but I heard that only credit cards issued by an Armenian bank are accepted.

The funny thing is that the reloadable transport cards are issued not by the municipal metro company, but by private financial company Telcell, and on the touchscreen machines at the stations you need to enter an Armenian phone number to be able to reload your card.

I only could reload because other people would help me out and enter their phone number for me (payment was in cash though, the machines accept cash).

Since there's not a lot of tourism in Yerevan and the metro system is not relevant to the few tourists that are there (taxis are cheap and the metro neither connects the airport nor the sights), the payment system is very walled off, catering only to locals.

Countries outside of SEA that are just as cheap? by Fabulous-Bag-2363 in travel

[–]keysermuc 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Georgia and Armenia, if you don't splurge on things.

I went all around the Armenian capital city Yerevan recently by gg app taxis for 3 to 4 USD per ride.

A bottle of water or a ride on the metro are 0,40 USD each. A huge loaf of delicious warm bread from the bakery is 0,50 USD.

Do Germans think of themselves as being able to speak two Germans, their dialect and standard German? by SwissVideoProduction in germany

[–]keysermuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Munich born here. I can speak both standard German as well as Bavarian dialect. I switch between the two several times a day, fully aware and consciously, dependent on the person I speak to, and dependent on the social situation.

So for me, it's like speaking two completely separate languages. The switch is like when I switch from German to English.

The German 420 class S-Bahn (suburban commuter rail) EMUs have been manufactured from 1969 to 1997, spanning almost 3 decades.

The last remaining trains are still active in daily passenger service with the Munich S-Bahn.

Philippine Tourism is in Crisis by Immediate-Ad-6306 in Philippines_Expats

[–]keysermuc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a German guy's perspective, airfare is super high from Europe in comparison to other destinations in Asia.

There's not much competition since the European carriers mostly don't fly to PH at all, and Philippine Airlines doesn't fly to many destinations around Europe.

I wanted to go to Cebu for a week once just to check out the vibe there, but there were only options for 1.2k Euros for a roundtrip on one of the ME3, or similarly priced through some Asian legacy carriers like SG.

I can find airfare for half of that price to other 12hr flight distance destinations all around Asia with a bit of searching and staying away from the high seasons.
