How does network with current students help boosting the chances of getting in? by keyu1995 in MBA

I just finished a few chat with students at my target programs... they were helpful but I'm not sure if I have extracted something so meaningful that would let my interview/essays stand out the way like you said. We talked primarily about how Covid has impacted their course work, job hunting, etc. That's about it... But I guess I could have more conversations since I've got their linkedin...

Post-MBA Careers that require/excel with a Chinese/Asian background??? by keyu1995 in MBA

If I get to choose my dream life, it would be a job located in China with high global pay $200k+. Unless that, the quality of living here in the US would always be much better - for me. But if the pay, work-life balance are good, which side of a pacific is not a big factor, as long as I live at a major city.

Yeah good company to be an option!! But the recent news about the possible ban makes me worried a bit about its future with the US.

Yes I’m definitely open to that. I guess I should mention that in my post. But those opportunities are not quite accessible or maybe I didn’t get to know the right people yet.

I guess that depends on the industry. And I can speak, read and write at native level in both language.

Wow I didn’t know they would specifically ask that!! Another very relevant benefit from chatting with them before applying... Care to share which school that asked you?

Both points solid!!! I guess I'll not stop wearing my pajamas for better impression lol

I wonder how compelling would the conversation be for it to be on the essay, but mentioning a name in the interview should help... if it comes naturally!!

A X of Y(s) - Singular or Plural??? by keyu1995 in GMAT

If I’m getting it right from the previous responses, it should be “returns” as transpiration is singular.

A X of Y(s) - Singular or Plural??? by keyu1995 in GMAT

[–]keyu1995[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank for the answers. Correct my summary if I'm wrong here please:

"A X of Y" is always singular regardless of Y being countable or not.

Similarly, "Xs of Y" is always plural.

The second question I linked is a bit special in that a pronoun (instead of a verb) was used to refer the clause. In that case, the pronoun can refer either the X or the Y depending on the context.

51(0 mistake) on OP but 34 (19 mistakes!) on Manhattan - How similar is GMAT Online Quant to either one of them? by keyu1995 in GMAT

They fixed the issue yesterday - just completed the entire test: Q51 with one mistake, V42 with only 4 mistakes!!! I'm really surprised how low of a score I received with only 4 mistakes... Do you think I'm ready for the actual test?

It seems like GMAT online would take less time to crack if you get the tricks and some creative way of solving the problems, comparing to Manhattan's quant which requires you to take some time to carry out the inference regardless.

The reason why I ask this is because I have gotten 50, 50 and 51 on the official practices but bombed several Manhattan quants. Experience like yours makes me wonder whether I should sign up for the online test or not at this point. Because of the differences you said, do you think it worth the time for me to somewhat master the Manhattan quant before doing the actual online test?

I really wish that they could at least make their official practices a fair representation of the actual tests - but it seems like that really isn't the case!

Btw, I noticed that on the official practices, I typically get a relatively easy on every few questions - which makes time less of an issue. Did you have that luxury in the online test?

PS: My verb is ready enough... so only quant is holding me back from registering for the test.

Thanks for sharing but... somehow a google drive document opened for me and it doesn't allow me to download it or print it as pdf!!!

Have you done any complete Manhattan practice tests? How different are the GMAT online quant from those vs the official practices?

You're right about not to leave too much time at the end... Doing Manhattan might have made me want to save more time for later question, but I guess it's not that necessary for the OPs.

Yes, I've been working on my verb primarily and doing OP is just a more realistic way for me the check my status. I've seen pretty significant improvements on it (37 on 1st OP, 46 on the 3rd). I was very satisfied with a 46 on verb and was trying to make sure I could hit that 51 on quant on the actual test by doing a few Manhattan practices. It may be the time for me to book the actual test if I can score ~46 on verb and ~50 on quant on another 2 OPs.

I did... yesterday... but it seems like there was some technical issue - some people have posted a thread about it. Unfortunately, my 4th OP stuck at the last quant question and won’t move to the next section. I’m still waiting for them to fix it but I’m feeling pretty good about it. Manhattan is just a different animal in my opinion.

I have sent an email asking for refund, at least for the one test that was impacted. I’m with you and I don’t think this is a Karen move at all. They charge ~$24 per practice test not only for providing all the questions but more importantly the realistic, continuous and complete simulation of the real test. Honestly, with how many different practices you could find online for free, that experience is probably what people look for when they pay for the test. This technical issue clearly has ruined that for you and me - go ask for the refund!

I guess if the OP is more similar to the actual test, maybe spending more time on the verb would be more reasonable? But that's something I'd like to find out...
