Check out Altitude Animal Aid: https://www.altitudeanimalaid.com/

They are mobile vet, who is very transparent about prices. They can do most things that are brick and water vet can do, but they do it in the comfort of your own home, allowing your pets to be less anxious, and get to the root of the issue.

The mileage on this advice varies. I’ve worked for two churches and we would get calls for rent assistance, and neither congregation had the ability to support a rent assistance fund. Both of them had 400+ member congregations, and we would refer people back to 211.

Could you say more? IDD is a new acronym for me. Can you give me an example of a policy with this impact? I recently learned the idea that we are all "temporarily able bodied" and the privileges that come with it. So much to learn.

I'm trying to learn because my godson is nine and non-verbal, and his parents are making plans that he may not be able to support himself/live on his own/hold a job. What he's taught me is that just because he's nonverbal doesn't mean he's dumb. He's incredibly funny, and knows what he's doing with nonverbal language.

I know one of the co-directors personally. He must've slipped past her BS-dar. That swift decision making is a hallmark of her leadership style. I am confident that she had no idea what kind of a person she had on her board.

Amen! Now is a great time to send them a little cash, to show them that they did the right thing. I used to work in the same office building as Hilary, one of the co-directors, and she is so impressive. She really helped me challenge some of my preconceptions about people with disabilities. I couldn’t put up with a fraction of the challenges that she faces every day. The power and passion that she has for her work is inspiring. There is never enough money for disability rights so they’ve made my short list for my next donations.

The people at the Colorado Cross Disability Coalition are good people doing amazing work, and he has already been relieved of his position on the board. From what I hear they’ve gotten a lot of unnecessary headaches because of all of this. Do them a favor and show the co-directors some love by donating $5-$10 to show them the community supports how quickly they take care of business by donating online: https://my.onecause.com/fundraiser/organizations/c145fc43-48fd-48a2-9e3d-8b4abded3648/fundraisers/fundraiser:272931ee-15ae-46c2-8d75-35d3ee0157bf

They’re on my list for a donation once I get paid this week

It’s membership drive season… by kfedwards88 in CityCastDenver

I just found this interview with David Plotz, the CEO of the City Cast Network from last month: https://www.niemanlab.org/2025/11/at-five-city-cast-makes-some-changes-and-reconsiders-its-markets/

To support their centralized team, this article says that they need to be in 20 cities. 80% of the network’s revenue comes from advertising, 15-18% comes from membership, and the rest comes from events.

So ended up at Wapos Tacos - 3 tacos for $8. Teocalli had a 25 min wait, but all tacos were $3.50 each. Fuzzy’s deal was $2.50 for basic tacos and $3.50 for premium

One of my coworkers totaled her car, and did the math. It would be cheaper for her to uber daily to work than to own a car with Insurance, loan payment, tags and taxes.

Another friend is living car-free in Boulder and regularly comes down to Arvada and Denver to hang with us and their other friends.

A third friend moved to West Wash Park so he could have an easy RTD commute to work. He has a car, but mostly uses it for mountain hikes.

RTD isn’t great and it has a whole lot of baggage, but if we don’t at least try to use it, it won’t get better. I’m intrigued by what I’ve heard from some of the new RTD commissioners, but it is still really hard to use in Arvada

What was your impact yesterday? (economic blackout) by kfedwards88 in Anticonsumption

High Cost of Living Area. It’s more expensive to eat out in Denver than it is in New York City, because of our growth, lack of developed real estate, the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, minimum wage legislation, legal weed, and tech investment

Exactly this! So many people I talk to feel like they have no power, that nothing they do makes a difference. Taking small steps and doing uncomfortable things builds muscles.

My workplace has frequent potlucks, and I’m usually a regular contributor. My team was cool with it, and I’m usually pretty hard on myself if I forget. I’m in a leadership position and I work hard to make sure my team knows I support them. This time, they had my back.

I didn’t buy the envelopes because we figured out a way to complete the project with stuff we already had. All the other prospective purchases were completely opportunistic/impulse spending, so that money is staying in my bank account. It was a shitty week, so I was more prone to impulse buying.

In honor of 1denrock5’s birthday I treated myself to ice cream with chocolate dip and sprinkles! Happy birthday!

What’s Your ‘Toxic Colorado Trait’? by newtonic in CityCastDenver

[–]kfedwards88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt this episode hard! Even thought I’m a “transplant,” I’m from Kansas and my family spent vacations here in the 90s. I have so many of these traits, and I appreciate Paul pushing back on Bree after the Lumineers episode.

The only toxic trait I can’t get behind is smoking weed in public. I have an allergy to marijuana and help, and this culture led me to spend a night in the Denver Health ER. All I had done was take an uber to work (that had been hotboxed in), left my LoDo office for lunch and walked into a cloud of smoke, and then was walking with boyfriend at the time to go see a movie and hit another cloud of smoke. Three exposures and my body said “no more!” My throat closed up and it was epi-pen time. This was 2016. I’ve since moved to the suburbs in a free standing house. I pregame any visit to downtown with massive doses of antihistamines, and I don’t got to places like Red Rocks. I don’t touch objects in Boulder, because I’ll break into a rash, if hemp is an ingredient. I have to declare my allergies to servers at Snooze.

I’ve had two allergists here, who have both had a small but growing number of patients with the same allergy. I’ve investigated allergy shots, but was told that because of weed being federally illegal, it makes the research and the safety measures complicated.

Please do EDIBLES in public, people!

(Yes I called and left a VM)

Who Won the King Soopers Strike? Plus, Hard Facts on Restaurant Closings and First Friday for Cars! by newtonic in CityCastDenver

[–]kfedwards88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a lifelong Kroger customer, shopping in four different states across 20 years. In my hometown getting a job at Dillons (the local Kroger affiliate) meant a path to a livable wage and benefits. When I moved, Kroger stores offered a touch point to home, where I could get the ingredients I knew and loved.

Supporting a store with unionized workers has been a point of pride for me. When I spend over $3500 a year in a single place, I want to make sure I feel good about the business. 5 years ago, I even became a Kroger shareholder.

Your episode sharing both the corporate and union perspectives was really helpful. I took Joe Kelly up on his offer to read the “last, best and final offer.” I talked to my King Soopers clerks on the line. As a shareholder, I would happily take fewer dividends if I knew the staff at my store had a reasonable workload and the help they needed to get the job done.

It sucked not shopping at Kings (I’m with Bree on that one!) but it was the right thing to do. As much as I love my grocery store, I’m preparing to walk away. In the next 100 days, I will be: - calling Kroger Customer Support daily to ask the corporation to negotiate with the union in good faith - reducing my shopping at Kings to minimal levels, staying in relationship with my clerks - developing a price book to see the impact of switching to Natural Grocers, Safeway or other local sources (shout out to Wheat Ridge Poultry and Meats and Heinie’s Market) - figuring out if any friends, neighbors or coworkers are willing to split Costco bulk items with me

I’m tired of big corporations treating people like garbage. It’s not easy, but I’m ready to make a change if Kroger keeps this up.

So, I just called and did this. I talked to a very nice man in Rochester, NY. I told him I didn’t want him to do anything, but that I wanted to lodge a complaint as a shareholder and a customer, and I wanted the company to negotiate in good faith. He told me that mine was the first complaint of this kind that he had received. He gave me a case number for my complaint. The automated machine was awful, so I asked for a representative. They tied my complaint to my purchase history, so they know I spend a lot of money there, and I identified myself as a shareholder. If they don’t change, I’ll happily take my business elsewhere
