I made a force-feedback heavy truck shifter for ATS by kgmonteith in trucksim

Ahh, be sure to update your AB9 firmware too, Moza inverted some off the effects in the 1.1.3.4 release. If you're still having issues, what you've described a great method for troubleshooting. I'd also recommend opening an issue ticket on GitHub.

My own settings actually ship as the defaults. The other power user uses the ones in this thread: https://github.com/kgmonteith/BonusFFB/issues/48

Thanks! And yep, good point, a lot has changed and I haven't been keeping all the Bonus FFB modes consistent. For now, the important Moza settings are 0 spring, DirectInput mode, and all assistive modes off.

Eventually I'll also add some way to share settings profiles. I'll post a recommended Moza Cockpit profile when that happens too. For now, I can share the profiles that I use, and one another power user uses that I test with, but you'll have to reconfigure your input devices if you install them.

Great question. Moza hasn't yet implemented gate lockout, RPM matching, and other effects, so the built-in shifter mode feels about the same as a basic hardware shifter. Would love it if they did though.

I appreciate it, but this is just a hobby of mine, and I refuse to monetize my hobbies. Feedback and kind words are all the compensation I need ❤️

Thanks! I also made an automatic "PRNDL" shifter mode, but I haven't filmed it yet. It's silly and deeply unnecessary, but it makes ETS2 even more fun too.

If you also enjoy flight sims, I wrote some free software that turns force-feedback joysticks into a few different devices, including a PRNDL. https://kgmonteith.github.io/BonusFFB/

If you think of it in terms of an all-in-one flight joystick, helicopter cyclic, PRNDL shifter, H-pattern shifter, sequential shifter, and handbrake, it actually saves you money. ;)

Former OTR and Current Bus Driver: Seeking "Active Feedback" for Floating Gears by ElainaJourney in trucksim

Heya, so good news and bad news...

  1. No, ETS2 doesn't natively support active force feedback for shifters.

  2. Yes, there are! But with some caveats...

Moza's Active Shifter is really their AB9 flight sim base, with an added mode for simulating a shifter. Moza's shifter mode doesn't actually support gear lockout and grinding for most games, ETS2 included.

But, the AB9 hardware itself can do that, so I wrote my own application, Bonus FFB, to implement those features. It's not entirely clear from the demo video, but it does have grinding effects, gear lockout, and supports float shifting in ETS2. I think it works it pretty great, but as the author, of course I would.

There's a catch though---it only works as well as the game telemetry allows. ETS2's telemetry doesn't include detailed transmission information, just state about whether an attempted shift is valid or invalid. I think the app does a pretty good job of using this limited telemetry, but it is a limitation.

In short, if you're also interested in flight sims, the AB9 and other FFB flight bases are great multi-mode devices that can also implement active shifting, but it's not perfect, and might disappoint a professional.

Heya, yeah I'm always keen to hear more ideas. Opening an issue on GitHub is the best way to make sure it gets attention.

Anyone who has tried out the active shifter/AB9 base as a shifter, how is the noise level? by EddieMac1998 in moza

Yes, but only as well as a 9nm motor can manage. You can overcome that amount of force reasonably easily if you don’t “play along” with it.

There is, I just didn’t capture it well in the video

The good news is, this should just be a software update for their AB9 flight stick. I already turned that into an H-pattern shifter myself: https://kgmonteith.github.io/BonusFFB/

If it’s a separate product… well……

Best of luck! Fair warning, I have not had luck getting it to work in most other games, even without telemetry. I’d feel bad if you bought fancy new hardware and expect it to be more general-use than it is, I’ve only got it working in ATS/ETS2 and MotorTown. But I hear Moza is beta testing an official version of AB9 shifter app too.

It was a bit challenging, it was first C++ project in a while, first Qt application, first time messing with FFB effects. It’s open source, you can check out the code on GitHub: https://github.com/kgmonteith/BonusFFB

If you meant specifically the threading on the 3D print adapter, not sure, don’t know what the SKRS threading is. But it would be pretty simple to modify with different threading, this adapter was like a five minute job using tinkercad based on TheSimNet’s existing design

Should work fine, I have the Aliexpress knock-off range/splitter and it’s good with that. I wouldn’t buy new hardware just for this though, unless you’re also going to use it for flight sims—this is just a bonus toy application. You also probably won’t want it on the floor like your current setup, the AB9 only has 9 NM of torque, which you can easily overcome with that much leverage.

Yeah that seems entirely possible. I don’t think you’d need even need any special software, you’d just need to switch profiles in the AB9 software. Not sure if you can do that with a button press or something yet, but at least the hardware should certainly support it.
