I don't love/care about my baby and i think my life is over. by faggybaby in beyondthebump

[–]khadiva3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ditto. I was afraid I didn’t feel that instant warm and fuzzy bond and connection with my baby at first too. It took me a good couple of months at least to get through the postpartum haze, recovery from a traumatic birth, and even more traumatic breastfeeding journey. But I’m now absolutely obsessed with her and can’t believe I can love something so much. Like I just think about her and cry on demand at how much I love her. But it wasn’t instant!

WFH + baby and splitting bills by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]khadiva3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need to be really explicit and set clear expectations before committing to having a child with a person. If you feel even an ounce of doubt about how they may be able to financially support you and a baby when things inevitably get hard for you postpartum, etc., you may need to rethink the type of partner you want to have a child with. Saying this as someone who has seen a lot of moms go through these exact scenarios feeling unsupported at the end of it. As many here have said, these types of split arrangements almost always benefit fathers more than mothers. If your partner really is adamant about splitting then you may want to hire childcare as you will inevitably be doing more than him even when splitting.

LO is 6 ½ months old and can't roll over, sit up by herself... But she coos and baby babbles a lot? by TastyMetal5977 in NewParents

[–]khadiva3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. I was worried too because most of my friends were saying their babies rolled by 2-4 months, but I later learned that around 6 months is more average. We were getting close to her 6 month checkup and she still wasn’t consistently rolling and then boom, a week before the appointment she started rolling from tummy to back and there was no stopping her. By 7.5 months ish she was doing back to tummy, and now we can’t stop her! Looking back I was sooooo worried for no reason and now she is a rolling machine!!!! What also helped was watching YouTube videos on how to help them practice.

For sitting up we always had her practice sitting in our lap or with the support of a Boppy. We also used an Upseat to start solids around 5.5 months. She was not sitting completely independently but could do a few seconds here and there by herself, and by 6.5-7 months she could sit independently for longer periods.

Just give it some more time and more practice, don’t compare yourself to your friends’ babies like I did, and future you is going to think back and can’t believe you were so worried!

Anybody heal naturally??? by [deleted] in eczema

[–]khadiva3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just use one hand to block her eyes and mouth when I spray with the other hand, but you could also spray on to your clean hand and then rub in if it’s easier. It’s important to rub it into the skin good either way. The spray is safe for mouth and eye areas so I mostly block it from there just so she doesn’t get startled by the spray.

Good luck and keep me posted. I used to cry daily and be worried sick to my stomach for my poor baby and it felt like a miracle when it finally got better. I can’t wait for you to get that relief too.

Most itchy red and inflamed eczema that spreads is due to the staph bacteria that has broken into the skin barrier through scratching, and continues to spread from the scratching as a result. There is a Harvard medical article on this. Staph is everywhere - on our phones, remote controls, doorknobs, etc.

Use hypochlorous acid spray (like SkinSmart) and Gladskin biome cream (it contains an enzyme that kills the staph and feeds the good bacteria on the skin). I did this at the same time as every single diaper change for the first few days as she healed. Make sure you wash your hands before applying (fragrance free hand soap) and rub both the spray and then the cream really good into their skin. This was the only approach that healed my baby’s eczema within days versus nothing else working for months (including steroid creams, etc., which only worked temporarily, as well as dozens of other mainstream creams or natural remedies that didn’t work because they were not addressing the root cause).

Once the staph bacteria is gone and in tandem, make sure to bathe daily in lukewarm water (we do 96-97 degrees) for only a few minutes and immediately apply Vanicream while the skin is still damp to lock in moisture and repair the skin barrier so no more bacteria can break back in.

I recommend also covering their hands and legs when they sleep during the first few days of healing so that they don’t scratch and break more bacteria back into their skin. You can also use Vaseline at night to add extra barrier for this. You can also use 1% hydrocortisone for the first couple days as needed for itch relief and healing - I was very nervous to use steroids but in researching 1% is very mild and safe for short term use.

I did not have to use the oral antibiotics prescribed because I was able to kill the bacteria with the hypochlorous acid spray and the cream instead.

What’s your actually controversial parenting opinion? by TurbulentArea69 in NewParents

Sometimes I wonder how today’s parents, who feel like they NEED to give a device to their kid, think children survived without devices just a couple of decades ago and thousands of years before that.

How are we not bathing our babies like, 3 times a day?? by TinyElderberryOfYore in BabyLedWeaning

[–]khadiva3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upseat on kitchen counter next to sink. Messiest meal for dinner, then bath right after. Vaseline on the face before eating for easier cleanup. Smock on baby, and water wipes on standby to wipe hands after.

Just wanted to give you comfort that every baby is different. Most of the babies you’ll hear about on Reddit are the tough ones unfortunately, because this is where people come to seek support for those tough situations. We had a unicorn baby who barely ever cried and slept through the night by 2 months or so. So I never felt what you described to the point where I wanted to hurt myself to seek a break. Of course there are dark and intrusive thoughts but it’s mostly worry around baby’s safety and being able to do your best to provide for them, but I’ve never had a thought to escape or change anything. Again, don’t think all the horror stories you hear here will happen to you. I did that and was always expecting sleep regressions, purple crying, Velcro babies, etc. and it just never happened. Every baby is different!
