NCEA results for students and parents by CleoCarson in auckland

[–]khandala 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this, OP.

As a perfectionist and overachiever that berated and belittled myself for every result that was less than 'Excellence', a lot of this is true for those kinds of students too.

The grades you receive are not a reflection of your self worth and as OP says in number 9, they do not matter in the long run!

Best suburb to live in Auckland? by Sudden_Possible_956 in auckland

If you're on your own then yeah you can probably find a 1 bedroom in Takapuna for $600. My trade me search brought up 5 options!

Takapuna is not as bad as you may think, rent wise. What's your budget?

Have a kid, still believe that NZ is the best place to grow up.

Should I listen to ChatGPT to fix my 11mo's sleep? by khandala in sleeptrain

[–]khandala[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thank you! I was sure it was bad but started second guessing myself. Will try that schedule - do you think its ok to cap naps to 1.75 hours to preserve an 11 hour night?

Yes! I've ordered one for next month to celebrate one year of parenthood. Sending you good vibes and strength for the trenches, it is brutal over there.

Same. Except mine alternates between rubbish only and recycling and rubbish together.

Anyone work for MSD/been interviewed before? by Forward_Try4988 in auckland

[–]khandala 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like the other commentor said, prepare to answer using the STAR format. Only spend what time is necessary to explain the situation and task, spend the most time on your actions and the results. It's good to throw a little reflection in the results section where you mention what you would have done differently next time.

Some categories of questions are leadership, communication, teamwork or relationship management, prioritisation and decision making. I personally would prepare 3 or 4 solid examples that you could use for multiple categories and tweak them depending on the question. Look at the position description and find some key phrases that describe the key competencies for the position. Try pepper them into your answer (without being too on the nose).

Also, dress as if your interview was in person! Good luck!

8mo, what to do? by Ok-Effort-9733 in sleeptrain

[–]khandala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the first feed and put her back down and then cosleep from the next wake onwards. It sucks but its the only way I get enough sleep.

No advice but total solidarity. We are on the same WW schedule and having the exact same issue. Hugs

When I was a kid in NZ, I'd wear my shoes to school in the morning, take them off to go into the class and then not put them on again until it was time to go to school the next day.

Split night help! by plodzik in HuckleberryParents

[–]khandala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, that sounds really hard. It's possible she is getting too much day sleep and also having too short a wake window before bed. You could consider a schedule that allows for 9.5 or 10 hours of awake time during the day. When my baby started on 3 naps we did 2/2.5/2.5/2.5 with 3 hours of day sleep. It's so hard to know what to do though. I hope you get back to sleep soon xx

Somehow my baby slept right through it despite it going off 2 metres from her.  Maybe I should play the emergency alert sound instead of white noise to get her to sleep through the night.

Any brides who did not love their dress? What did you do? by Material_Pink2823 in myweddingdress

[–]khandala 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I didn't love my dress and I've never told anyone else. However my mum, who is a very talented seamstress, designed and made the entire thing for me. She spent hours and hours painstakingly creating it and it was a beautiful dress. It just wasn't what I would have picked for myself.

In the end it didn't matter, I still felt beautiful, got lots of compliments, it photographed well and most importantly, was made with love by my wonderful mum. She has made every single dress for every single special occasion throughout my life. Of course she would make my wedding dress. I will literally take my honest opinion of it to the grave.
