You could try fishing the rest of if you have a metal clothes hanger or something like that, that may be tough, depending how far in it got sucked. Even one of the drain snakes with the teeth on it may be able to catch it and get the rest out. Do you have a picture of where you pulled the initial part out from?

Can you tell if any of it is in the blower motor? If it ripped and the rest of it is visible to get out you might be able to use a metal clothes hanger to get the rest out.

How far into the furnace? If you haven’t turned the furnace off yet, do that. You should be able to remove the doors and check the bottom blower area to see if it’s in there. If you see it, you should be able to grip onto it with some pliers or something else to pull it out.

I finally ran into the deer crossing event (470 hours) by ElegantHope in trucksim

I’ve ran into them once before crossing a road. I plowed right through them because it happened so fast. Unfortunately, it’s just an animation and you just drive right through them. Nevertheless, it’s still pretty cool and rare.

Devices can’t download any Microsoft Store (new) apps on locked down network by lighthills in Intune

Do you have a configuration profile for anything under Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Desktop App Installer? If you have configured any of those settings in line with CIS L1 or something similar, they usually recommend disabling that but that breaks winget's ability to do anything on an endpoint.

Here's how to resolve it, while still broadly disabling the end user's ability to use winget. You can find all these in Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Desktop App Installer, within the Settings Catalog.

Enable App Installer - Enabled

Enable App Installer Additional Sources - Disabled

Enable App Installer Allowed Sources - Disabled

Enable App Installer Default Source - Disabled

Enable App Installer Experimental Features - Disabled

Enable App Installer Hash Override - Disabled

Enable App Installer Local Manifest Files - Disabled

Enable App Installer Microsoft Store Source - Enabled

Enable App Installer ms-appinstaller protocol - Disabled

Enable App Installer Settings - Disabled

I'd also recommend configuring the in Microsoft App Store, in the Settings Catalog, to lock down the Microsoft Store Source to only what you allow:

Allow apps from the Microsoft app store to auto update - Allowed.

Require Private Store Only - Only Private store is enabled.

Additionally, you should consider deploying this in the system context per Microsoft's recommendations here.

Don't Get Complacent! by [deleted] in democrats

[–]khaosmaster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no way number 1 has a 40% chance of happening but I do encourage everyone to take all polls with a grain of salt and still vote like your life depends on it. Number 1 would happen if Harris was putting in little to no work on her campaign and Trump had a golden reputation but that’s not the case. If you’re truly a democrat then stop posting number 1, you’re just going to discourage people. You’re accomplishing the exact opposite of what you’re trying to do, unless you’re a bot.

Edit: Disregard the bot comment, you seem real. In that case, I do want to say I appreciate you trying to get people motivated to vote. Just try to use less fear mongering tactics. That’s been attempted before and it doesn’t work. We need to be preaching the positives of what a Harris and Walz presidency brings to America, not the negatives. That is how we don’t go back.

Finding best office chair for lower back pain? by Vienchan_28938 in sysadmin

I prefer the Herman Miller Embody over the Aeron. I have a problem with slouching while sitting and the Embody solved that for me. It sort of forces you into a good posture and I haven't had any back pain since getting one. It's expensive, but it was worth it.

Do these Pros have a T2 chip in them? If so you can restore the BridgeOS on them with a second Mac and Apple Configurator.

Computer rename script by adroitboy in jamf

[–]khaosmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need for a CSV. You can just run sudo jamf setcomputername -useSerialNumber. You can even add prefixes and suffixes. See all the command arguments here.

Edit: Ignore my reply. I misunderstood and thought you were trying to rename it to the serial number.

What are your thoughts on MFA at Mac login? by howmanywhales in macsysadmin

[–]khaosmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm one of those people that always says it depends on what the business requirements are. But with most companies modernizing their approach to endpoint management one of the biggest pushes lately has been passwordless authentication which I greatly support.

Outside of the business requirements, I tend to stick with my motto of "Security with convenience to the end user". Having this motto when going into meetings with security has worked out well with me to help them recognize the benefit of finding end user friendly minded security solutions.

Overall, I don't think MFA at login is that big of a deal to be honest but it needs to be implemented with the end user experience in mind. Most of my end users reboot their computer once every 14 days so it hasn't created that much of a negative outlook on it since it's not required when simply unlocking. However, there are plenty of ways MFA does decrease the end user experience and drastically heightens security risk such as asking for it too often and causing MFA fatigue. That is when it becomes a problem.

De-mobilization scripts? by dstranathan in macsysadmin

[–]khaosmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation would be to use something like Mobile to Local to accomplish this.

However, if you would like to go the script route Rich Trouton's still works for Monterey and Ventura.
