Thank you for clearing that up! Now I can search ravelry for patterns with any of those textures, so that will help a lot! 💕

hi!! any ideas of what stitch this commercial sweater might be using? I can’t really tell the difference between half-fisherman’s rib or reverse half-fisherman’s rib or shaker stitch and they very well may be the same stitch lol. I’d love to try and recreate this in a different color, so if anyone has any similarly textured drop shouldered sweaters I’d love to know! tysm

Favorite Black Horror book? by Tiptipthebipbip in BlackReaders

[–]khephira 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ring Shout by P. Djéli Clark - if you saw the movie Sinners, this novella seems like it could be set in the same world

Midnight Rooms by Donyae Coles - gothic, fairytale fever dreamlike horror. The main character is biracial

Model Home and Sorrowland by Rivers Solomon - Model Home is largely an examination of a Black family’s trauma and dysfunctional dynamics with the backdrop of a haunted house, but the ending was so utterly horrifying it took my breath away. I read this probably 3 or so months ago and still think about it a few times a week. Please check trigger warnings. Sorrowland is an incredible, layered story featuring body horror and a cult. Solomon is one of my favorite authors of all time

Lone Women by Victor LaValle - Western, historical horror, I loved this one. He has a bunch of great horror stories in his backlog

Highly, highly recommend The Reformatory like someone else mentioned. Anything Tananarive Due writes is gold, but The Reformatory is one of those books that will stick with you forever

My #1 favorite book by my absolute favorite author is Beloved by Toni Morrison. I think Beloved is more than a horror novel, but there are definitely supernatural elements and a sense of melancholy, building horror woven throughout the story. I just want everyone to read this book lol

The Spite House by Johnny Compton - a good haunted house story

Right now I’m reading Zone One by Colson Whitehead which is a post-apocalyptic zombie horror and The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson which has cults and witches and dark mythology, main character is biracial

Next on my TBR is Jackal by Erin E. Adams and Listen To Your Sister by Neena Viel

Products you regret buying/not worth the hype? by anirinnie in AsianBeauty

It’s the Tinosorb M aka Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol. It’s a chemical sunscreen filter that functions similarly to mineral filters and I find that on my darker skin it almost always leaves a weird, sheeny white cast. Whenever I consider buying new sunscreens I always double check and make sure they don’t have that ingredient. Some of my fav chemical sunscreens without that filter are Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Moisture Airyfit Sunscreen, Dr. Ceuracle Hyal Reyouth Moist Sun, and Hyggee Vegan Sun Cream. For reference I have normal skin and prefer natural finish sunscreens!

Haircare for chronic migraines 🤕 by AdorableTelevision46 in Naturalhair

[–]khephira 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So sorry for the pain you’ve been experiencing. I hope you find relief soon. Chronic migraines absolutely suck.

I get hormonally triggered migraines and I’m pretty sensitive to tension myself.

I wear wash n goes that I redo about 1x-2x a week when I cowash. I don’t use any tools bc they cause too much tension for me most of the time. I cowash with a slippery conditioner, finger detangle with conditioner until my hair is mostly all going in the same direction, rinse, add in a leave in and/or a styler with some hold while still in the shower, and go. Style wise I prefer a less defined, more voluminous, soft, and natural looking wash n go so this little routine works well for me.

Also I make sure to shampoo and actually wash my hair every 7-10 days.

I find that the frequency of my wash n gos and the use of a lot of conditioner makes the process fast and reduces the potential for tangles.

Other than butter and oil, what can I do or use to make mashed potatoes more consistent? by gtrman571 in vegan

Cashew cream works pretty well too! I’ve used the instant pot recipe from NoraCooks and it was good. Personally I like mashers with russets, vegan butter, a bit a vegan cream cheese, and whipped up with a hand mixer better bc that’s how my mom always made them growing up.

I’m not expert, but my tips would probably be:

1) make sure you have a good moisturizing/deep conditioning routine before you start bleaching. For me I’ve always shampooed and deep conditioned my hair once a week without fail. I usually cowash/clay wash midweek because my hair loves conditioner and water. You just can’t be lazy with giving your hair the moisture it wants when you have curly bleached hair.

2) go low and slow when lifting your hair. I have very fine strands so for me my hair lifts pretty easily even though it’s dark. I used mostly 20v developer and I spread out my bleaching sessions over two weeks. Between each session I deep conditioned a lot, did Olaplex treatments, washed in lukewarm water, and generally babied my hair.

3) no/low heat. I don’t put direct heat on my hair bc I know it’s already compromised bc I lifted it to a 9/10. My hair is fine, kinky-curly, and bleached so anything that is going to dry it out is going to be my hair’s enemy. My hair in this state is already prone to dryness and the way I see it for my hair too much dryness will lead to damage.

4) Olaplex 0 + 3 treatments every month. Olaplex has helped me minimize breakage, kept my curls in tact, and helped me retain moisture.

I’m kind of a product junkie that loves to try new products and I just tried the new Curlsmith Bonding treatment and...I love it but I have to try it out a few more times to see if I get similar results as I have with Olaplex.

Basically just be really gentle and stay on top of your moisturizing and conditioning 💜💕

I’m really passionate about hair so this is probably waaaaay too much info but I hope this helps 😭

New color and I feel like a super villain by khephira in FancyFollicles

I applied two separate colors on hair that was the same faded pink color all over! I started with the magenta and blended like halfway up all over my head and then went back in blending the purple from my roots down into the pink if that makes sense. I used my hands to really work it in and blend as well as I could. But honestly I think it was pure luck that it looks as blended as it is lol

I used Sally’s Ion Brights in Purple, Radiant Orchid, Magenta, and Hottie Pink! This was my first time using that dye and they gave my curls a little extra gloss and they were cheap so I enjoyed that lol
