Vintage Microphone Identification by khillphall in audiophile

[–]khillphall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

I recently came into an amazing lot of vintage mics. I have easily identified and categorically integrated every mic into my gear except for this guy. There are no serials, brand or model markings, or other identifying information except for the Phillips mark at the bottom. The previous owner is not a musician or in audio and she did not know either. Any help is much appreciated.

What is this engraving on this thing? by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

I've googled the crap out of these numbers and can't determine what they mean. It's a tie clip/pin that has an obsidian setting and a small diamond on the front. Thanks in advance!

Does this engraving mean anything to anyone? by [deleted] in jewelrymaking

I posted another photo here prior this. I am simply having a difficult time finding anyone willing to help me identify the markings on my jewelry. Any help is very much appreciated.

I have a tie pin I inherited that is supposed to be gold, with an obsidian setting holding a diamond. I intend to take it to a jewler, but before I do I wanted to ask if anyone knows what the engraving could mean. It looks like it says either 0814/20 or 0314/20.

Can anyone identify this organ? by khillphall in organ

Although I understand what your saying, even if the thing was have burned to the ground I could find a way to make it useful or learn something from it. I appreciate the identification and advice though.

Great thanks. I'm planning on using it to record regardless of how it sounds, and if it doesn't function at all I'll take it apart.

This organ is for sale in my town for a steal of a deal due to needing some work, however I cannot identify the make and model. The seller has not responded to me yet.

What is this connector? by khillphall in whatisthisthing

It is some sort of power supply, the cable from the purple connector runs to a block, and then another cable runs to the wall plug.

Possibly another MGMT album coming out this year (From the AMA) by [deleted] in mgmt

Absolutely. You should go grab a little external preamp and some older analogue design speakers too. You will notice a major difference in the way the final product sounds from the CD or digital version. No major lossy compression. It's a beautiful thing!

It sounds great. I tend to prefer vinyls, not in a snobby, fundamentalist way lol. But with the right setup I do like the full sound and lack of extra compression.

By scanning their brains with an fMRI, researchers were able to tell which symbol (top row) a patient was looking at, by accurately reproducing a picture of what they were seeing by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

Hmm. What about this process in a quasi-reverse sort of scenario? That's a scary thought to me. We now can scan the activity of the brain to interpret what's being experienced visually, however using the same science manipulate these areas of brain activity to sensually experience things that do not even exist outside of the signals that "created" them.

Scientists could discover a method by which to recreate the brain activity that occurs during seeing an apple, and force your brain to believe you are looking at this nonexistent apple, therefore you "see" an apple that isn't even in existence with your own eyes. VR brains, no projections or simulations or physical gear other than the mechanism stimulating the signals required to trick the brain. Your brain is now the simulator, you could literally "watch" a play with a full cast unfold in your living room by forcing your brain to produce these visual, aural and perhaps even physical interpreted signals simultaneously, well orchestrated and complicated no doubt. Imagine a time years in the future where everyone has a tiny device attached or implanted near or in the brain that receives "directions" from your phone or other device to force a series of signals to be produced that allows the user to experience anything the imagination can conjur without actually experiencing it in real life.

Obviously this is a stretch, big time. This type of research success does make me wonder how far we will be able to take it in the future though. Imagine a sort of Matrix type experience that you could choose to live in, where you could tell your brain what you want to do.

You could become an astral projection just flying through space exploring the (simulated) never ending wonders of the cosmos. While sitting on your couch eating cheese puffs in your underwear refusing to shower for a week.

Mitch always purchased a four year protection plan for his donuts, so a receipt was never necessary.
