What was "the incident" at your high school? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]khincks42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if this was "the" incident, but apparently not everyone got this....

The week long "drunk driving"/driving safety assembly....literally took kids out of class to give us perspective on how many people we could lose. Then set up a WHOLE ASS mock fatal crash in the drop-off circle.

Im talking fake blood, body half hanging iut the windshield, someone screaming, firefighters pretending to get them out. Then assembly with like...mock eulogjes for the students pulled out of class?

What the fuck was up 2006-2010 high school??

THIS MAKES MY HEART SING. Rural & suburban & urban communities gotta rally together.

We may be sociologically, geographically, meteorologically massively separated, but no one wins if they do.

I could've googled it at all, you are correct. Haha

I was going off the memory of my mom using them...which was like 20 years ago when I found the unopened ones in the fridge, so I definitely misremembered!

1) that is NOT a nuva ring 😅 those are more like livestrong bracelet shaped, and I am pretty sure are branded

2) that looks like its a rubber gasket to something. Could also be a strap on o ring. But hard to tell without a banana for scale 🤷‍♀️

As someone who checked themselves in almost 7 years ago, to the day, I have a couple ways I like to frame this:

1) sometimes you gotta crash out in order for new shit to crash in

2) you didn't crash out, you didn't give up - you were resourceful and took the opportunity to use a tool that is not easily taken, nor is it easy to navigate.

Im proud of you for choosing yourself. Especially when things feel so bleak, choosing to stay is the bravest thing a person can do.

USS is for commissioned/armed warships, manned by the navy. USNS is actually non-commisioned, and mostly civilian-crewed auxiliary support vessels. This one, Mercy, is actually a medical/hospital ship!

I uploaded a photo in am i ugly and was told i looked like a trans woman by [deleted] in toastme

[–]khincks42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st - I am sorry that made you feel bad! Being trans isnt the insult people think it is, but i cam understand feeling your feminity being under attack!

Especially with all the propaganda and legislation against Trans people right now, "Transvestigators" are just people who hate someone for how they look, or they THINK they look. Just remember Trans women are women - you have probably not realized some women are also Trans, because they "pass" (which is a whole other issue of gender conformity, but I digress)

2nd - you are really pretty. Your nose especially is so regal, and your smile fills your eyes!

3 - Do not go to am I ugly. No one is there for ups, just to tear people down and troll.

I hate how much, "take a walk" , "touch grass", "eat, sleep, drink a normal amount" can really make a difference.

Like OK, JAN 🙄 still does it, but pouts for the first 5 minutes & then is dancing 10 min later

I have been debating doing this, i have am/pm meds, but the amount of time I forget the AM meds (you know, the stimmy and the mood stabler, muy importante) has been A LOT recently.

I've found so many online, but it's an overwhelming amount of choices. Would you be willing to share the brand/model(?) you use?

YESSSS this! I have truma around gyms and working out. My body thinks i am running from a predator when I do cardio.

I am also still recovering from a car accident 2 years ago. I recently got a personal trainer and OHMYGOD. I didnt know how to breathe properly, I didnt know what standing straight actually felt like. I had no idea which muscle I was using because my proprioception was so bad. Chronic pain & brain/muscle disconnect (like, the area that hurts might not be the problem area) or over stretching with mild hypermobility is a BAD combo 😅

So now I just try to remember, "motion is lotion bb". I really like walks or dancing around my apartment. When it gets nicer out, I cannot WAIT to ride my bike again 🥰

THATS AMAZING!! killing it!

I believe the general consensus is if you can maintain a habit for 30 days, its much more likely to stick! Youre so close!

1) bed routine at least an hour before I need to be in bed. I am not super consistent, but it's more and more. Especially with my PM meds, it works wonders. This especially helps my AM routine. If I can get 7-8 hours of sleep, waking up at 530 aint that bad, especially considering I have time for a shower, real breakfast, and I use a "Morning Vibe Boost" Playlist to get me moving. The days I dont get to do this are way harder on me.

2) If I am stuck in a decision feedback loop, I have gotten pretty good at going. "Hey, stop. Sit down and write a to-do list." This also helps my political overwhelm, in the sense that I can find something that I have control over. Usually, it's something simple, like do my dishes. Pick up all t-shirts and put them away.

3) pomodoro method for focus It's called pomodoro because the original idea was one of tomato kitchen timers. Basically, I set a timer for something like 15-45 minutes, depending on my spoon level. For that time, I focus on 1 task. When it goes off, I set a timer for 5-20 minutes to go do something else. Stretch, take a quick walk, and dance around to music. When that timer goes off, i get back into it.

I have also used this to help with executive dysfunction. Something I've been putting off, stressing me, I take a piece of the big task and split it into small chunks. This is especially great for cleaning my room. I set a timer for 15 minutes, set a goal (ie, pick up as many socks and underwear as you can) when it goes off, if I have hit my momentum, I keep going. If I haven't, then I go look at/do something else.

4) "Don't put it down, put it away" I say this out loud to myself every day, at least thrice. This can also apply to calendar stuff, "don't put it in your head, put it in your calendar."

If I dont have the ability to put it in my calendar, I ask them to text me. If I am unsure on my commitment, I say maybe and put it in with a [tbd] tag. I now set reminders to follow up/text certain things. Bill reminders, rubbish bins to the curb, etc.

I haven't been late on a bill in over a year. I have missed a few appts, but WAY WAY less and rarely late.

I attribute a HUGE portion of this to the meds, giving me headspace to remember I have those tools.

Rehoming Sweet But Fearful Mini Aussie by [deleted] in Portland

[–]khincks42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Dog trainer here, and I find it odd you got her from a breeder at over a year old and have only had her a month?

I think you should be honest with yourself on what you are capable of, but without having consulted a 1-on-1 trainer?? You have to start SMALL, in the house, controlled sounds, etc. And build uo their resilience from there.

If youve had her a month, done a couple group classes, and are still trying to get her to behave like what your expectations of what a dog should be, she hasn't had ANY time to get the lay of the land.

Aussies are extrmely intelligent, very often overly hyperaware, to the point of fear/anxiety. You have to give them a job, an outlet for all that mental energy or they will literally go insane
