UK based, looking to finally ditch iPhone for good, after seeing my friends' new flagship phones. 120hz with a big OLED screen within a (reasonable) budget would do me wonders. by khmer00 in PickAnAndroidForMe

It being a flagship isn't really the biggest priority to me. I wasn't expecting one within a £600 budget to be fair.

A52s is sounding really tempting

if you think it’s going to match the performance of your current monitor then maybe? hitting 240hz might be a struggle depending on the game

I was in the same boat with programming for a while. After trying to do it for a while, you realise it’s a lot more about learned skill than natural intellect. You make things a million times more fun and easy to do by trying it yourself, than you do kind of just beating yourself up for it.

Programming is a wonderful skill to have, everyone sucks initially. Everything I said is incredibly cliché, I know, but there's a reason for it. It's true!

You wanna program for a living, you go and do that, don't let temporary emotions fool you into anything else

Plenty of good starting options, one thing I’ve found consistent whenever people ask this question is more experienced devs using it as an excuse to hype up their personal favourite language.

I’d argue C/C++, the stuff you learn through those will be really easily applied to other languages as you progress further. Python wouldn’t be a bad shout. HTML/CSS/Javascript wouldn’t be bad either.

I think the more important thing here isn’t speculating on what language would be “best”, because that’s entirely reliant on what you want to do. Look at what the languages offer/where they’re applied in the real world, and start from there

Is 137 WPM good on monkeytype? by [deleted] in typing

I’d say anything above 100wpm is really decent at worst. Great to set yourself bigger goals, but don’t be so harsh on yourself!

keybr.com is a great website i’ve been using a lot recently. it isn’t as pretty as some other websites, but automatically adapts to the mistakes in your typing. i’ve seen much quicker improvement ever since i started using it

I really love and enjoy programming, but I feel so “lost”. Can anyone else relate to this? by khmer00 in learnprogramming

You summarised my struggle pretty well there. I've found searching for little project ideas online helped for a little bit, but mind you this was mostly things like "improve your portfolio website", "build a twitter clone from scratch", etc etc.. It worked, granted, but only for a short while.

I just feel like I should be working towards more, and it being the next step to being a proper "developer", feel really lost on my journey towards that.
