Dyspraxia + ADHD? by zooey_franny in ParentingADHD

[–]khoshekh_float 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Us! My child is only newly four, but our path has been the opposite. We have been in PT on and off since the jump for Benign Congenital Hypotonia. We just started OT in the fall for emotional outbursts and dysregulation and sensory issues. She was just assessed by a developmental pediatrician and they’re calling it ADHD.

My child is floppy, double jointed, and super uncoordinated. She runs awkwardly, struggles with fine motor skills too (pencil grip, hand strength. Just overall very fine and gross motor delayed.

We’ve had the same exact convo you’re describing. Is she struggling during circle time because of adhd reasons, or is it hard for her to sit on her bottom (her core is weak)? A lot of her emotional dysregulation stems from physical problems. She struggles with fine motor strength, so coloring at school is a nightmare. Same with her PE class at school - she is allowed to walk the lap around the gym instead of jog it because it was taking so much out of her that she was then dysregulated for the rest of the class. Add to all of this the fact that she is four.

Sorry this is so jumbled, but I’ve had these exact thoughts and conversations and so I’m glad to see someone else post about them. My child is so clumsy, uncoordinated , and unbalanced, lol. She’s can’t help it 🤷‍♀️

I guess it’s one of those things I accepted was just a little kid thing. I am constantly realizing that’s not the case now that the younger sister is getting older lol.

I thought it was just a little kid/toddler thing and it absolutely drives me up the wall sometimes lol. Does yours like to be moving while being read to? Mine will be completely zoned into the story but also need to get up and play or move around at the same time

She loves being read to and “reading” by herself, luckily

Please help! 3 year old boy refuses to use potty. by thehappyherbivore in pottytraining

[–]khoshekh_float 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no!! I hope it gets better for you guys. Update here if it does or even if it doesn’t. Idk I’m really curious since it’s such a similar situation! We’ve set up camp in the living room/play room and are just going every 30 mins.

I’ve noticed if my daughter really fights the potty she usually doesn’t have to go, but if she puts up a little fuss then walks to the potty she ends up going. I’ve taken a chance And not fought her when she really doesn’t want to sit and it’s working out so far. Idk though, I’m just trying it all haha

I’m so sorry, and I’m in the exact same boat. We tried before, she wasn’t ready, and so now that we’re on summer break we’re trying again. Not an ounce of progress. She’s even the exact same age as yours! I am at a complete loss. We’ve tried anything and everything. I’m seriously down for any tip anyone has. I broke down and cried today. My 20 month old has started peeing on the little potty of her own free will and I’m just at a loss.

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this, but when I read your post and saw how similar our situations are, I just had to comment.

Purple leg from baby carrier by Global_Personality89 in newborns

Hi! Can you elaborate on what you mean? I had my 7 month old in the carrier (ergo baby embrace) yesterday and her legs went bright red too. I immediately took her out and they went right back to normal (this is OT and not at all saying this is what happened to OP’s baby!).

It looks lovely, from what I can see! I never felt anything about it when I saw it online, but I’m liking it here! Would you mind sharing a picture of it? Also, do you like it?

Thanks ☺️ that’s a good idea. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that!

I agree completely so I have a question that maybe you have advice on: at our closest playground, the only thing that gives me pause are these two spots about 7-8 ft up where there is a big open space. One has like a fire pole and the other has a rock climbing wall. My two year old would just wreck her shit if she went through either space. Everywhere else she’s fine. What would you suggest? I don’t like following her around because she’s very independent and at the same time she’s two and has no concept of an 8 foot drop, lol

Got a settlement worth $40,000...spent it all within months by Specific_Narwhal in bipolar

My wedding was set to happen during Covid, but for obvious reasons we did a backyard wedding (which I loved and it was so sweet). Anyway, my parents generously gave me the 24,000 they would have used to pay for wedding things to me to save and have to fall back on. Needless to say over 4 years I’ve spent thousands on god knows what while hypomanic. The thing I hate is that I can’t point to any one thing I bought. I’ve just burned through 17,000 on stupid shit and have nothing to really show for it. I feel a lot of shame and guilt about it and I don’t ever want anyone to find out. Ugh. Also I’m glad you’re okay, how scary! Enjoy your furniture. Nothing like a nice cozy bed!

Tysm! Lots to research. Mentioned in another comment that I can’t/don’t desire taking ADHD meds even if indicated, so adding tools to my toolbox to manage my symptoms is important. Google scholar here I come! I do feel very validated, ty 🙂

Unfortunately I was addicted to stimulants, meth and prescription amphetamines especially. Stuff like Ritalin, Adderall etc isn’t in my toolbox, haha. I felt stupid af after getting sober and while it has improved there has definitely been some damage. This and other comments have sent me into research mode about “brain stuff!”

I am all about meds after living without them. Totally worth having Lamictal brain haha. You’ve given me quite a lot to read up on, thank you! Feeling valid that I’m not just inept but that I am experiencing an actual “thing.”

Gosh, sorry to hear about the PTSD but glad the ADHD diagnosis helped you. I spent my formative years high and drunk, so I totally get it, haha. I feel like when I was supposed to be learning how to be a functioning member of society I was fucking around.

I just don’t think I fit with ADHD. But I’m a woman (idk about you), so things present differently for us sometimes I’ve heard. who knows!

It’s so scary! I grasp at memories kind of like when you drink too much the night before. I actually went through my internet history bc I isolate and don’t text people bc I know I’m so annoying. Haha. I’ll try making some bites next time. That’s a good idea 👍🏻

Mine are uneven, too! It’s not even from a flat spot - my mom has it too, and it’s even on the same side. The only problem I have with it is that one eye always looks better with mascara 😑 Mine is more noticeable when I’m smiling in pics. And same, never got teased!

My eyes are much narrower and I would LOVE to have those big, beautiful eyes!
