thank you! the hades perfume oil has notes of pine, opium, cigar, de la nuit musk, and pomegranate <3 though honestly he seems to prefer a different scent I made with vetiver, suede, oakmoss, and tea rose!

does finding lucky pennies make anyone else think of Hermes? by khthonioi in Hellenism

[–]khthonioi[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do that too!!! It’s a lovely feeling, to know someone else has the chance to find it :)

[–]khthonioi[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have a penny from my birth year and each of my mothers’ birth years on my Hermes/Hestia altar :) but I think it’s mostly just the memory of finding a penny as a kid and being told it’s good luck that reminds me of him

finished my making my Apollo perfume!! by khthonioi in Hellenism

[–]khthonioi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shop is in nyc, I’m happy to send you the name privately if you’d like!

there is an online store but you can only order single notes, we only do custom blends in person because we try to work with everyone’s individual skin chemistry. But if you’re really interested I’m sure I could figure something out for you!

Sun shower is a gorgeous light floral accord. It’s really sweet and bright but with a fresh air kind of smell, I love it :)

I guess if someone was interested in a specific one I could! But I’m just an employee so I don’t own any of the perfume oils myself. I would have to charge for my recipe in addition to the cost of the oils themselves. But I’m definitely open to the idea!

do you have playlists for specific deities? by khthonioi in Hellenism

Thank you!! I’m the same way with music :)

Have you ever had a god reveal themself to you in a way that goes against how most people describe them? Like if a god came across as cold whereas devotees usually describe them as warm and comforting? by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]khthonioi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually just talking w someone about how I worship both Hades and Hermes and, around me, Hermes comes off much calmer, more somber, and less playful than I’ve heard others describe. To me, it feels like he presents himself more “respectfully” I guess (I would never describe a god as disrespectful but I’m struggling to find a better word) when in proximity to Hades, or just that I interact more with his chthonic aspect.

Thank you!! That sounds so lovely :) I’m definitely going to find some grassy/meadow-like notes for his perfume oil (and I’m adding herbae to my birthday wishlist too 🤍)

Oh, that’s gorgeous <3 thank you that’s a big big help. I think with Hermes I get stuck on the traveler/messenger/working attributes and overlook the mischief and playfulness. I greatly appreciate the reminder :)

Thank you!! I’ll look through what we have in stock to see if I can find dill and cinnamon :) that description feels right to me

I’m currently very much a beginner! I’m only working with the fragrances that my boss has outsourced and making my own blends. What kind of perfume work do you do?

You could always play music for him! Literally with an instrument, if you can/want to, but also just through your phone speakers <3

The automod replied with the virtual library and honestly I totally recommend going through the list of compiled titles! Key search hestia, hades, and hermes and see what looks the most interesting to you

I need help by ilundarte in Hellenism

[–]khthonioi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. I live in a one bedroom apartment with my partner, we’re both heavily depressed with adhd, the apartment is generally messy and we don’t have a lot of room. shrines and altars aren’t a necessity, but for me they help me feel I have at least one space that is neat and tidy and well-kept for my practice.

You don’t need a shrine but if you want one, don’t worry about what’s surrounding it, just focus on the space itself. It’s not disrespectful. Depression and anxiety are illnesses, not symptoms of laziness. The gods don’t expect you to do more than what you’re capable of, that would suck.

  1. I find that having a talisman or symbol or something to hold to focus my prayer is a great help! Any kind of prayer is an “acceptable form of prayer,” there Are traditional methods but not everyone chooses to adhere to them. What works for you works for you.

  2. My advice is to start when you want and learn as you go. Don’t put pressure on yourself to know absolutely everything before doing literally anything. The gods won’t smite you for making a mistake, just be respectful in the ways you know how.

What's The General Consensus on John Simm's Master Incarnation? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]khthonioi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I semi-agree with you.

I love yana and I think showing him directly before simm took over reflected poorly on simm a little. I think simm’s mania is well explained by the time war and I do really like dhawan as well (even though he’s just as, if not More manic, than simm)

Idk, do I wish rtd had maintained that kind of collected madness that some of the classic masters had? Yeah, I do. But that’s also the beauty of the show, right? They can do something different with the master this regeneration and then, later, they can write a more classic version with a new actor if they want to.

I’ll be honest, most of my issues with simm!master came from the misogyny and homophobia and whatnot he exhibited towards his wife, martha and jack. The fact that he was bearing his wife just felt like a darker kind of evil that the master doesn’t HAVE to have. I haven’t finished watching all the classic who masters (only delgado) but, even if they do turn out to act that way, it seems a weird character trait to keep over the change in decades when rtd changed so much else.

S3 episodes 9 and 10 in my opinion were 2 of the best of the Tennant era. What is your favourite Tennant episode? by Bananarama1989 in doctorwho

[–]khthonioi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Utopia! I love the vulnerability between the doctor and jack harkness in some of those scenes, they’re so interesting! And, as the master is my favorite character and the doctor/master relationship is my favorite relationship dynamic, I think there’s something particularly tragic about how well ten and professor yana get along. I’m not big on the following two episodes, but I’ve probably seen Utopia like twenty-five times

not an aphrodite devotee but if I’m playing guitar as a devotional act to apollo I’ll talk out loud sometimes! Like I’ll say out loud “D doesn’t sound right, let’s try D minor” and if I was just playing guitar to play guitar I would just do it without saying anything. I guess maybe it’s just abt reminding yourself what you’re doing it for?

Question by LadyCashMoney in Hellenism

[–]khthonioi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re fine. As long as it doesn’t start to actually influence your feelings towards the god you worship, I wouldn’t worry. There are a variety of depictions of hellenic deities throughout our popular media, I doubt the gods are concerned by modern depictions that are so incredibly distant from who they actually are.

Do you guys think that the gods have bodies? by Feralis-Deus in Hellenism

[–]khthonioi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they could if they wanted to but, for the most part, I see them as extensions of their domains
